I have no issues with treble hooks. Just pay attention to what you're doing.

My suggestions are:

buy a plug knocker, It’s saved/rescued a lot of lures/$ for me over the years

 

when I fish traps I remove the bottom barb of the front hook.   It helps with catching less weeds

 

Hooking yourself stinks but if you only have one barb in ya,    You can remove it very easily,  see video 

 

 

@roadwarrior Definitely! Lure wraps are clutch for treble lures to keep them from snagging random stuff. I like using them as like a "lure wallet" too for quick pocket access.

I use Owner Treble caps when storing them in the box to prevent hook-tangle. Go on before I cut the lure off, don't come off until the lure is tied on.

That is good advice about the treble hook caps.  I use them some, but I often forget to.   I probably ought to buy a sack of them and just scatter them around the boat so they are there when I need one.  That is what I had to do with fishing pliers, i.e. I had a pair or two in the boat but they weren't ever close when I needed them, so I bought  half a dozen pairs and I scatter them around the boat prior to launching and gather them all up when I take out and I'm putting away stuff for the drive home.  Works for me.

Invest in a good fish gripper. It will make removing treble lures from fish much easier.

I have several landing nets since it is one of the best investments a fisherman can make along with fish grippers.

I don't have anything particularly against treble hooks, but I swear every fish I caught on a Flicker Shad last year managed to embed all 6 hook points in it.

That depends a lot on the time of year and location.  In Connecticut during the summer I absolutely feel your frustration. The Kitsap peninsula is not a problem year round.  Tenessee and Texas are a mix.  California high Sierra ponds and lakes never an issue.  Type of impoundment time of year and location makes a huge difference.
