Anyone used these casting rods: MH Enigma HPT Gen 3, IROD Genesis III, Okuma EVX, Daiwa Tatula?

Featured Replies

I am looking for a 7'ish MH rod that will handle medium to large cranks and spinnerbaits.  Basically a rod that fishes in-between F and ModF.

If you have experience with these rods could you please elaborate on how they fish?  Are they true to their action, stiffer, softer, balance, weight, etc?

I have the Okuma EVX 7'2" MH. True to the Power Rating and Action.  This is the perfect

all-around rod at the pricing point.

I have 3 of the older tatula rods. I assume the new ones have the same blank but I could very well be wrong. I thought they were true to their rating, maybe a hair fast compared to the rest of the industry. I have the 7'2" H, 7'2" MH, and 7'4" H. The MH is a "regular" action (mod fast IMO) and probably my most versatile rod. Not what I'd call a "crank rod" but it's got enough give to fish treble hook baits. I use it for jerkbaits and topwater, as well as spinnerbaits. It's not ideal for much but it's the one rod I'll take to go bank fish with cause I can fish so much on it.

The Tatula rods are great for the money, and fish pretty much spot on with their ratings in my experience. If you want something in between a fast and mod fast anything in the Daiwa lineup that is listed as "regular" action is pretty much what you are looking for.

The Tatula rods are legit rods. ?

I have the Okuma EVX 7'2" MH. It's a great, all-purpose rod true to it's power rating.  Lightweight and sensitive, it's one of my favorite rods.

I've got 2 EVX Okumas, 1 spinning and 1 casting. They're both great rods in my regular rotation.

Okuma and Pflueger  are the Rodney Dangerfields of bass fishing.  I've always felt I got good value from both.  I got an Okuma Helios 7' M on sale.  Once it arrived and I had a chance to use it, I went and bought a second while they were still on sale.  That is not something I normally do as I like to try different gear.  I only have doubles of 2 rods.  Once because I hated the spinning rods in that line because of the small guides (tried micro and standard) so I exchanged it for a casting rod I already had.  And then there's the Helios.  That's it.  No other doubles.

I now have some rods I wouldn't mind having doubles or triples of, but finances prevent it.  :sad78:

I also agree about the Tatulas.  Only have the originals, but think they are excellent for the price...or even more.

I have a few Okuma TCS and they're one of the best, most ignored rods out there IMO. I buy them any time I find a good deal on one.

Although this doesn’t help the OP I’m glad to read these comments as I purchased a TCS and received an EVX for  Christmas purchased on TW’s Black Friday sale and can’t wait to use them this season.

I appreciate all of the input guys.  It really helps me out since I don't have access to a store to put one in my hand.

I have an 7ft medium okuma EVX I with a phlueger supreme bait caster. I bought it just this last November. I plan on using it for shallow to medium cranks.  I think it would make a good spinner bait rod too.   I haven’t used it yet but, feels awesome in my hands though.  I’m going for the first time Friday I’ll let you know how it does.
