Bass are unpredictable

I watched a co angler set the hook on a bass years ago. As soon as he hooked the fish he said, " Oh it's a good one".                        He easily reeled in this fish, and the bass made one half hearted jump, never really clearing the surface. I netted this bass for him, and it weighed 7lbs 2oz. Yet, it came to the boat very easily, and didn't fight much at all.                                                                    On the other hand, I've had four lb fish tear it up, thrashing around, jumping, and pulling very hard.                                             This is all part of what makes bass fishing so much fun. Each fish is a little different, and unpredictable in the way they fight.                                                                Have you ever hooked a good size fish of say, 6lbs or more that didn't fight very hard?

My PB (10lb 2oz), was caught in Mexico and extremely skinny. Followed my T rigged 8" lizard back to the boat and ate it when I free spooled my reel. Set the hook, she kind of half-heartedly wallowed on the surface and my guide netted her. Whole fight lasted less than 5 seconds. Caught an 8.5 the same trip that I didn't think would ever quit fighting.

Some of the most ferocious fighters are those 1 - 1.5 pound bass. Maybe they're too young and inexperienced to know any better, while the bigger and older ones are thinking, "Dang - fooled again!. I sure hope they put me back in the water quick." ?

Each bass is different, each bite is different, & each fight is different.

Some of the biggest bass I've caught were bites so subtle one could easily miss em.

I fish a lot of shallow water marshes were the bass can only run. I also fish Toledo Bend's deep water structure where the bass can both dive & run.

Each one is different!

Gotta love it ?

Bass are like people. Some +250 pound men cannot even squat their bodyweight yet there are men that are under 200 pounds and have squatted more than twice their bodyweight. With that said I have noticed that most of the big bass I caught gave a decent fight for their size but nowhere as good as saltwater fish.

I caught a 6lber in cold water last October that fought like a 3lber...no issue at all getting her in. To counter that I caught a 7 last April that straightened one of my trebles out and opened up one of my split rings.

Most of my bigger LM make a good first run and another short burst or two. It's the 2 - 6 lb LM that don't know when to give up. Our Spots are crazy mean no matter their size and they're gonna fight hard until you get that head out of the water.
