Dobyns 735c vs 744c

Featured Replies

In your opinion is it worth the money to buy the 744 Champ if you have a 735 Fury? I'm using it for jigs. Are they about the same?

The Champion will be much lighter, and feel better for jigs and T-rigs.

I have a 735 Fury and a 705 Champion, and there is no comparison as far as feel, lightness, and sensitivity goes.

I would most likely use the 744 in light cover using 3/8oz casting jigs and football jigs with trailers. 744 would also be my swim jig rod. I assume my 735 could handle 1/2 to 3/4oz jigs.

I do have a 734, but it's my favorite Texas Rig rod.

Could I get away with using swim jigs and jigs 3/8 to 1/2oz on the 735?

If you have a 735 why don't you just try it out and see. I use mine for 6.8" Keitechs, and R2S 168 s-wavers.

I also regularly use my 705 Champion for 3/8oz swim jigs.

depending on the size of jigs you are using I'd look into the Kaden 744 or the Kaden 745.  I don't fish a lot of heavy jigs.  I use mostly 3/8oz swim jigs and 3/8oz and 1/2oz football jigs on my Kaden 744 and love it.  If you are going to be going heavier than 1/2oz I'd recommend the 745.

To me, the 735 is an excellent swim jig rod.  I like to bash a 3/4 oz swim jig through the weeds and I almost always have it tied on.  I prefer the 734/MH expride for 1/2oz swim jigs and have never tried a 3/8 oz on the 735.  For clarity, I fish the 1/2oz in more open water situations.

The 735C in grass with a 3/8oz and a RageTail Menace was deadly. 4 fish, ranging between 3 to 5 pounds. Keep your 744C. I'm happy with this one.

I have had a good experience with both these rods. I currently use a champion 744 for my jigs (for now I got a Brailist inbound ?), and I have had a sierra 735 in the past as well as other fury's. My best friend fish's jigs with his champion 736, and my old sierra 735. While he does fine, catches as many or more than me, I think you will have a much better time with the Champion 744. Good luck!
