Best 6 1/2’ MH rod for $150 or less

Featured Replies

A recent post got me thinking about buying rods over $150;  anything over this price might be ‘overkill’ for most anglers.  Anyway, what’s the best 6 1/2 ‘ MH rod for Texas rigs, etc, $150 or less? I found a Dobyns  Fury for $119 that looks good, but are there others?

I know Falcon makes a 6'6" rod in the Bucoo series called the "Herm". They run around $100. Pretty good rods for the money.

I'm guessing you're likely looking for a MH/F, but if a MH/MF would suit you, a Falcon Lowrider Weightless Worm rod runs about $130.00. It's 6' 7".

Best for Texas Rigs is longer than 6'6".  Personally I have a 7'6" and 7'10" and wish the shorter one were longer.

Tons of great rods for the price. I have used and would recommend BPS Carbonlite 2.0, Fenwick HMG, St croix Mojo Bass, Dobyns Fury, and probably a few others that I can't think of at the moment. I would narrow down what components you prefer ie. Cork handles vs foam vs winn grips, regular vs micro guides, etc.

For a couple of more inches the Tatula mh 6’10” is fantastic.

If you can up your budget just a bit I find the best bang for buck range is $170-200, this’ll get you falcon experts, daiwa elite/ rebellion, st croix victory/ premier, shimano zodias, dobyns sierra (champion on sale), etc

I've had just about every series Falcon has made and for my money, since you are limiting it to $150 I suggest stepping up to the Lowrider. It is appreciably better for maybe $20 more than the Bucoo, but the Bucoo is a good rod too.. If you can swing it the Falcon Expert will open your eyes. It's a solid $300 rod that sells for $199.

I don't think Falcon makes a 6'6" rod in the Lowrider. I know they use to because I have 2 of them.

No, but they do make 6'7 and up. Sort of tough these days to find much variety in anything under 7'.

It's been a while since I've used them, I use mostly Megabass and my own builds these days so I'm not maybe entirely up to date.

If you ask me, I’d say, for the most part, rods in the $150-250 range are the best.
