I currently have a SLX HF that has been great but it seems heavy in weight and kinda kills my wrist over time. So I’m looking at getting a different one that is more light weight but still stout enough to haul them out of the muck.

My dad has a Powell Inferno 7’3” heavy fast that is really light. Makes a nice frog rod. $110.

Best? No idea.  Currently have on OG Tatula 7'4" HF I keep in Florida for frogs and an ALX Toadface for local.  No experience with them but the Okuma EVX 7'5" HF and Genesis II or III 7'5" HF Fred's Magic Stick would also be top contenders if I needed another frog rod and wanted to try something different.

I’ll check it out. It’s hard finding weight specs on rods.

ALX Zolo Toadface 7'2” MH+F 4.25 oz.

 

The Ark Money Maker fishes heavy.   7’3” MHF  4.68 oz.

 

I didn't weigh my Tatula before shipping to Florida, but two of the 7' rods (MR & MLR) weigh less than 4 oz.

 

My Okuma Helios 7' MF weighs 3.34 oz.  Tackletour gave it a "Great" rating.  Maybe look for a HF.

There are light weight rods out there.  Takes a little digging to find them.  Very few give rod weights.

Take a look at the Irod gen III. Well made, very light. Customer service is one of the best.

I have a Tatula frog rod,  if it ever breaks or gets lost, it will replaced with an Irod. These run $ 150.00 at TW.

Favorite Sick Stick MH 7'2"

Solid backbone with a great tip. I only throw popping frogs.

I also have an SLX M/XF in 7'2"....I can feel the weight difference between them. The Sick Stick is a very light feeling rod in the hand and inexpensive at about $120.

I will go weigh them and edit here in a bit.

 

OK....Sick Stick is 4.4oz and SLX is 5.0. The SLX was not as heavy as it feels (I expected it to at least be a full ounce heavier). I do think the Sick Stick is a very well balanced rod in contrast.

How do you feel throwing frogs on a medium heavy? I’ve always had the mindset of using a heavy power rod for any kind of frog applications, but I see more and more people saying they use MH

I fish popping frogs 95% of the time and the tip is too important to me for accurate casting and skipping and getting the frog to react the way I want. I've tried to use Heavies, but the just dont work. I also have no issue burying those frog hooks in their jaw with the MH. I often skip it into holes and under docks that are just 8" off the water and 12-24" wide. Without some sorta tip to get that hollow bodied frog movin, it aint happenin.

Now, if I am froggin across mats, slop or pads, I have an 8' IMX Pro heavy action/moderate cranking rod that is amazing. I will throw a Scum Frog Launch Frog with some added tungsten weight to it and slang that thing 120'.

   This is where the Heavy powers come in handy. I used a MH/F for two years in Lake Weed Hell, and broke the rod twice. I casted fine, accuracy was fine, hookset was fine, but hauling out all those weeds was not fine. I now have a Heavy, and life is good.  ???         jj

Ya I’m in a kayak so I have to double up purposes for my rods. I went with a heavy to fish frogs around slop and lay downs but also to punch with.

Hey I know you mentioned the inferno but have you messed with the endurance? It’s mag med heavy which they says is for frogs only weighs 3.7 oz

I have no experience with Powell rods outside of the one I mentioned. He won it a few years ago in a tournament. I have been testing out my friends new St. Croix Victory 7’4” heavy (awesome rod btw) and it weighs 4.2oz, and balanced (to me). A stout frog rod at 3.7 oz is amazing.

I throw frogs on a MH. It’s fine in moderate cover like Lilly pads with openings, if you’re throwing it on 40-50 lb braid. I’ve never tried fishing it in true slop so can’t say for sure but I could see some cases where you might not have enough rod to yank em out. I just never fish that type of cover so I like the lighter tip and overall lighter weight of a MH.

Most of my stuff is heavier slop and vegetation. I also double my frog rod as a punching rod.

How about the Daiwa DX Type LT frog rod? I've heard positive things and the price is right

The 7'4 H F Omen Black is a nice H action rod that doesn't feel like a pool cue and isn't tip heavy.  The yak version has a shorter handle by a couple inches.

If handle length isnt an issue and you dont mind spending a few more $ the 7'4 Victory would be good too.
