Frogs chasing hollow body frogs?

Featured Replies

Hey all, so this year I've made a real effort to use HB frogs and its absolutely paid off so far (PB was caught on one a few weeks ago!). Well today I was fishing some real scummy/duck weed pond edges and noticed almost every cast and retrieve, big bullfrog were pursuing the HB frog. It was so bizarre! I've never seen that. Is it a normal occurrence? Act of cannibalism? Maybe just trying to get freaky? Haha.

Well... better to have frogs chasing your hollow-body frog baits than northern pike.  A few seasons ago, there was a huge pike hanging around my favorite frog-fishing spot.  He ate at least three or four Scumfrogs over the course oft the summer, slicing easily through the 20lb. InvisX leader I was using.

I've caught exactly one thing with a frog...a bullfrog. Barbless so it was an easy release.

Def takes practice but it's so worth it!

If you cast by a bullfrog with a hollow frog, or any other bait for that matter, the bullfrog will very likely try to eat it. Catching them on a hollow frog is not at all uncommon and very frustrating. In my experience, if you're getting chased by bullfrogs, you're in the wrong area as there never seems to be many bass in areas with lots of bullfrogs.

Thats a big boy!

This is so interesting to me. Watching them swim under the scum like a shark to get to it was awesome. I learned something today.

I know some people that will try and catch frogs to eat while fishing with a frog lure.  I've had numerous frogs go after my lure while fishing.  It can be the quite heart attack if you've almost got your bait back to the bank and then something explodes onto the water from right next to you lol

I've caught several frogs over the years with a frog.

Once or twice I had to stop using it because all I was doing was being chased by and catching frogs.

A couple of outings ago I had to yank my frog away from a snake. I've also had to do the same with a bird.

I've missed more bass than I've caught on them. And I've caught a lot of bass on them. I bought a frog-specific rod and dedicated that combo specifically for frogs from March to whenever it gets cold here. I put a T rig on it for pitching when the water is too cold for topwaters.

I've seen a big bird catch a big frog while I was fishing as well.

I can assure you that alligators like hollow body frogs also. I fooled around and hooked one about 2 feet long one day.

I could have sold tickets to see me trying to get my frog back. My partner was laughing so hard he was no help at all.

I did catch a bass right before that but not with the frog. Same spot from shore. Got it on video - 1.5 pound fish broke the garage sale rod my friend gave me.

There are boy and girl frogs ya know.  Everyone needs a little lovin!!!

If I have the right lure on (Ned or crappie) I enjoy throwing to frogs. They really look embarrassed by the incident after it has occurred and my hook is in their face ?

There's a vid on YouTube of a guy losing 2 frogs to the same pike. Then catching that pike later on a spinner bait and getting his frogs back when he cleaned it.

At 4:19 minutes he tells the story. Cleans the pike later in the vid. The whole video made me laugh though. *language warning*

One of the places I regularly fish the frogs are pretty aggressive... frog1.thumb.jpg.1e08395ab2e2290bb43a3026fafc3815.jpgfrog2.thumb.jpg.5a1bb9db3b6aa8c9299e9186dd2e5f50.jpgty

I quit fishing with frogs in some ponds near my house because the bullfrogs.  When I cast the bait out it was like ringing a dinner bell.

You throw frogs on fluoro?

If you can't catch anything, got find some bullfrogs, catching them is a lot of fun!

Was swinging a lipless in front of me one time, from the bank, and a frog jumped several feet in the air got himself hooked.
