Who was the angler who won the Bassmaster Classic using a spincast reel?                                             Here's a clue: he was a young man.

You got it Catt. I think he was using a Zebco 404 his 1rst Classic. No one else knew this one!

I have VHS tapes of 'The Bassmasters' and one of the episodes had Woo Daves flipping a mister twister phenom worm into thick bushes.  He was using a spin cast reel because "I can stick my rod straight into the thickest part of the brush and just push the button,  allowing my bait to drop on a slack line"  It would have been difficult to practice traditional flipping where he was fishing.  He won the tournament if I remember correctly....

I have an old Zebco underspin that I use to exercise the cats using a 3/8 oz plastic practice weight. I could see a reel like that being useful in hand-to-hand jungle combat, but we have almost nothing of that sort in my area.

Woo used a spincast reel also. He used a tube with 6lb line on a spincast reel on a flipping stick. He used it so his tube would fall freely into the grass on a slack line in the windy conditions during the 2000 Classic.
