I just bought my first soft plastic fishing mold: 4" SLICK SWIM PADDLE TAIL SWIMBAIT (WITH HOOK SLOTS). I have never made my own soft plastics, so I had a couple questions before I start buying stuff. 
1. What is the best plastisol for swim baits specifically 4 inch?

2. What is the best brand and size of glitter and what colors are the best for shad colors and green pumpkin?

3. What colors should I buy and what is the best brand?

You will get many answers to those questions.  I have been making soft baits foe a very long time.  I prefer Calhoun’s medium plastisol but others will probably recommend different stuff.

 

When you buy colorant be sure that it is a non bleed so your colors won’t corrupt.  Get glitter the same place so you won’t be buying cheap stuff that will melt.

 

Heck ya people make their own, I just started so I won't offer advice.

Been making my own for many years as well. You can one stop shop at Do-It. Their essential plastisol is my favorite of the half dozen or so brands I've tried. Their X2 colorant is excellent, as is their glitter. I have no idea how many of their molds I have at this point, but I've never had an issue with any of them. I like their injector too. Nothing but good things to say about the company and their products.

I said I wouldn't comment but I'm using the same thing and having great results as a beginner.

I do but not very good at it.  Color recipes are the secret to consistently. I just mix stuff together until I like the way it looks.  Most soft plastics I just buy with the exception being jig trailers that I use a lot of and things I can't find to buy. Working on a couple custom molds right now that I hope to have done by spring.

Like Allen stated, color recipes are what it is all about.  I keep a book devoted just for plastic recipes.  I write down how much plastisol is put in the cup, how many drops of which colorant I use and each glitter color size and amount.  One of my best baits is a laminate which only takes 1 drop each of two different colorants per 2 ounces of plastisol while some others take 10 so records are imperative if you want accurate repetition.

Hey guys I use dead on plastics and I’m wondering should I get the medium hard blend or the medium blend for jig trailers. And what blend should I get for swim baits? Also should I add salt to my jig trailer and my swim baits? If I do how much?
