curious if i can swing a deal after i check it out. will a 2018 Subaru Outback handle this boat for towing, would this be working to car too hard. anyone tow with an Outback.

Most of the Outbacks are rated to tow #2,700.  The 2.4 turbo model is more like #3,500.

For reference, I am looking at a 17' aluminum rig.  Boat, trailer and 20HP motor come in at just about #1,200.  My current Forester is rated for #1,000 or #1,500 "when properly equipped".  Assume that means a braking system for the trailer.  Either way, I'm not pushing my luck there.  The new Forester Wilderness (equipped with a transmission cooler) allows for #3,000 tow.  That will allow for gear, fuel and a buddy to ride with me and still be under the max capacity.

So, figure out what the rig weighs and consult your manual for specs.  But (just my opinion) as long as you're not planning to tow across country I think you should be ok.

Stopping is probably more of a concern than towing.  My wife towed my 20 Champion all over even to south Texas and back with a Ford Windstar minivan.  She had no problem and the trailer had brakes so stopping was not an issue.

4 cylinder outback?  yes

If after a while you think the Outback is just not cutting it...upgrade.

In the short run..you can just up get some really nice slotted front rotors and sacrificial pads.

Funny how most forget about this rather “minor” detail. ?

I really rough guessing that rig to be way under a 1.000 pounds.  All the parts weight can be checked out because they are new enough.  No brakes should be needed.

Edit Jack up each wheel & check wheel rotation bearing noise. Spin free with a VERY SLIGHT freeplay when top of the wheel is YANKED FORCEFULLY back & forth. Check bearings for rust. Change & repack them..........Edit   See if S S bearings are available. Well worth it. I use the same set since 96. I inspection. perfect.
