Jerk bait Rod

Featured Replies

I have a Expride 6'8" MH rod.  3/8 - 1oz.  Would this be okay to use for a jerk bait rod? I don't fish from a boat, only from the bank, so I figured 6'8" for the downward twitching would be good.

it will probably do fine but based on the specs alone it seems like an overpowered for most jerkbaits. I think a M or something with a lure rating 1/4-5/8 would be better suited for standard bass sizes jerkbaits. The height is perfect, shorter rods do make for that easier slashing motion.

I throw a lot of 3/4 oz & 1 oz jerk baits for bass so I think it should be fine.

I personally love my medium casting setups for jerkbaits. Sometimes I want to throw those smaller jerks for stubborn bass, hard to get out there with a stiffer rod. But to each their own, length is on point though!

If I was using a medium heavy, I’d back my drag waaaayyy up.  Jerkbait hooks aren’t very big, and can pull out if you’re not careful.  The rod length is perfect!

My jerkbait combo is a 6’10 medium, 7.1:1 reel, 10 pound FC.

Perfect! Use mono and set your drag correctly. I used the exact same rod and it worked great. I used it with a 70 mgl and it was amazing.

I use a 6' 9" MH/MF for jerkbaits, I like it way better than all the medium powered rods I tried for them.

I have the exact model, and I use it for jigs. IMO it's too stiff for jerkbaits, but doable when you carry only one rod.

Like some said, I'll just have to try it out. I know it's on the heavier side, we'll see.
