I know there are bass specific boats, walleye specific boats, and even crappie specific boats, but do we really need a specific boat to catch those mudbugs?...

We had one for pond fishing as a teenager. Worked great from what I recall.

My first boat was a Coleman Crawdad. It was one of the first generations meaning it was a single hull with aluminum tubes for bracing. The later generations have two plastic hulls w/o the bracing. Also, the older Crawdads were rated for a 10 h/p outboard, I had a Johnson 9.9 on mine. From what I've been told, the newer generations were only rated for six h/p. Like @TnRiver 46, I'm from east TN and they are legendary for smallmouth fishing in rivers and creeks. Those boats will take a pounding and if you were to puncture the hull, you can watch a YouTube video on plastic welding and fix it easily.

Friend had one many years ago. Was a lot of fun on the mountain pond.

Tough boats for sure. 

Bought one in 1986 and used it for years and gave it to a friend who is still using it today. 

I believe Ramx is the material used......no problem standing up and fishing. 

There is a HUGE thread on these boats, Bass Hunter, Pelican etc. Check out "Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?" in this forum. It's about 100 pages long I think, lots of info on mods etc.

Thanks guys for all the info that is great. Game and fish said that needed to bring inn for inspection because the person got it from never registered it. So its been Five years since it was tag.

It really shouldn't be a problem, those things were well made.

Hey there Pastor, the Coleman Crawdad is a great little boat ,the Ram -X is very strong and durable

that was my first boat ,I got used in 1992 , although it is a 2 seater be very careful with your weight the limits 400lbs. that includes all your gear ,battery, trolling motor , outboard ,cooler and other equipment  adds up fast. I have gained so much weight over the last 30 years I still got 2 swivel seats 

I fish solo these days or with one of my young Grand Children ,lol. 

The Coleman Crawdad was produced and marketed by The Coleman Company from 1982 till 2000 when the rights to all designs and Coleman's proprietary Ram-X plastic was sold to Pelican.

All the Crawdads were a single hull design produced by thermal pressure molding. When Pelican acquired the rights, they re-designed it to accommodate roto-molding manufacturing techniques, and the result was the Pelican Intruder.

The Crawdad was/is rated for 5hp, but I have seen larger motors used with no problems. (Mine has a 4.5hp 2-stroke on it)

It's also rated for a 400 lb capacity, but there is an advertisement that displays one with 1500 lbs of cinder blocks in it, and it still draws less than 6" of draft.

They are Excellent little budget fishing boats that have a strong following, and are actually quite stable as long as you don't mess with its center of gravity by trying to install elevated decks and pedestal seats.
