With the dollar fetching over 118 yen, I'm getting ready to do some overseas stockpiling myself.

Do you have any of the non-dc antares?  I am considering adding an antares this year, and was looking at the standard antares 70.  I wonder which one gets better distance bombing moving baits.

No, All of mine are DC 16/18/21

You're not wrong, but these ain't cheap either.  Currently, in my world, these are high end and you definitely know what he's asking.   scott

You're right...I guess I should have spelled it out.  I thought "which would you pick" was clear enough but I guess not for everyone and I should have added "between those listed below" Budget is

  • The question is why would I want one?

I tried the JDM version of the Metanium MGL and won't do that again!

Why? I’ve abused mine for over a year with no issues. Assuming your are talking about the 20 Met

Where to begin? Tiny knobs/handle, lighter 100 size spool makes it unruly unless you crank the brakes down. And every one of them was never as smooth as the USDM version. Also, when I engage the thumb bar on the JDM version it has this very faint plastic on plastic sound, it doesn't click at all. The US version has a very pronounced thunk, metal sound. Same thing when engaging the handle. And on that same note, I've had too many instances where the JDM gets hung up and you can turn the handle but the spool won't reengage. I would have to physically push the thumb bar up with my finger.

Every other reel I've tried in JDM versions I've had the opposite experience. They've all been better feeling than the US counterparts. This was the only one that was not like that. I tried a few of the JDM versions of the 20 Met and they were all identical.

What went wrong?  Personally, haven't run into any issues yet, but would like to keep an eye out.

Interesting. I’ve never fished a USDM model to compare it to but haven’t noticed any thumb bar or brake inconsistencies

Interesting fish with both and with the exception of smaller handle i see no difference Jdm has never been unruly and probably handles lighter baits slightly better.

If one of them did it then maybe it's a fluke. But 3 out of 3 with identical issues and purchased at different times .. I think not. I'm up to 12 USDM models and none of them have any of the issues I mentioned.  A bad match maybe? Could be .....

I've got 2 jdm metaniums  and 2 usdm metaniums that i put the xg handles on which i can't tell which one is jdm or usdm.

mostly because I have to cast from bank to the wind and I want to be accurate. I can get that better with DC.
