Does bright colored line effect fishing for panfish? I'm always on the hunt for different line, especially for panfish. I do not like braid to mono on small reels but like the visibility. I've been looking at Ande Tournament 2lb mono. Their 2lb mono is significantly smaller than the current 2lb mono I like. I wouldn't be opposed to using a leader of either mono or flouro. Also, are there any advantages to using IGFA line? Thanks in advance and tight lines! Can't wait for open water here in Wisconsin

I’m pretty sure this post is going to be moved but in the meantime ? I’ve never met a line shy bluegill. I’m currently using Kastking monofilament in a red color and I’m going to grab some bright blue to match my favorite panfish rod. I’ve used brown, green, clear and now red and I’ve actually had them see me standing on the bank and they still bite my offering?

I totally spaced that there was an "Other Species" spot on the forum. I'm sorry admins. Good to hear about the line color. I guess I should just buy some and find out. Problem is if I don't like it I'll have over 2000 yards of it

My mom fished with 8# high vis yellow sufix mono last weekend we fished didn't stop the shellcrackers from biting.

Don't think we have those in my neck of the woods. I'll probably just have to order the line I've been thinking about and hope the fish and I like it. It's like 25 bucks for a 1/4 spool. I've certainly spent and lost a lot more on things I thought I would like?‍♂️

I prefer Power Pro

I use 4 or 6 pound mono in green without issues for panfish, even in clear water. My primary target is crappie though, not sunfish. I do catch a few sunnies mixed in too.

 

I just west of you @digitalvoid in central MN so we probably are fishing very similar waters. Waiting for open water here too…

^ Echoing my 'close neighbor' - green 6# is my main panfish line and they don't seem to care.

What color green are you using? I'm assuming you are using a bright colored green? Because technically I have "green" line. SOS Trout Magnet 2lb is "green" but it's more of a natural green. I haven't tried Power Pro, but I don't like using braid on mono on the smaller reels. A little wind makes a bad day for me, in fact I think I'll be switching back to mono for all my setups. I'm thinking of using a brighter mono line to clear mono line for my jig and drop shot rods rods for panfish and my soft plastic rod for bass

My panfish line is Sufix Elite Mono - 6# test - lo-vis green.

I use P line but any decent quality mono in moss green would work I'm sure.

I was thinking more specifically bright colored line. I like the visibility but don't like using braid on the shallow spools 

I gave up fishing light line for panfish when I switched over to fly fishing.  I still use the spinning gear occasionally, but the lightest line I have on my reels is 10 lb clear fluorocarbon.  The bluegill, pumpkinseed, rock bass and crappie, don't seem to mind.  They're not line or leader shy.  I use a heavy leader when I fly fish lakes because there are large bass and chain pickerel in them, and they do hit my panfish flies.

Basically, you're over complicating it.  Pick the color and line test that makes you comfortable and go with it.  As far as buying IGFA line, unless you're planning to fish for world records, it's not worth the extra cost.

Doesn't seem that overpriced. 25 bucks for over 2000 yards of the Ande Tournament monofilament. It's also significantly smaller than the current 2lb mono I'm using. I figure it would help with casting distance.

Currently I'm using low vis 6# green mono.  In the past I've used up to 10# clear mono.  

I use yellow stren mono 4 pound

I’ve lost count how many times bluegills have come up and popped the line where it enters the water. I don’t think they are line shy at all.
