So I'm new to fishing by myself maybe someone can help me. My uncle used to use live nightcrawlers/worms. I don't fish enough for live worms to be worth it. What's the best "fake" alternative to use and would I use the wacky rig? Would I just put the hook through the worm/bait once? Any help is appreciated. Thank you

That opinion will change with the person. Ask 12 bassers for their favorite worm...you'll get 13+ answers. Different ways of fishing use different worms - I have 4 different ones myself, in 2-3 colors of each.

There are a plethora of ways to rig a plastic worm...wacky is just one of them.

For wacky - once through the middle. No weight or light-weight jigs (I use 1/16oz and 1/8oz round heads for wacky jigs)

A Zoom trick worm wacky rigged is a good place to start. 

Look at the second topic in this forum. Once you get through it you will have a better grasp on one of the best "fake" worms ever made. 

 

 

i'd look into learning how to rig a texas rig, wacky rig, or a neko rig which is pretty much a wacky rig with a light nail weight in the nose of your worm. all are absolute fish catchers!

definitely another staple in worm fishing. i tried to keep it simple for the new guy with a few to start with! 

Haven’t heard the term “fake” worms in decades, rubber worms usually indicates a older angler. 

We call them soft plastic worms, that term will make easier to search for information on this site.

1st things 1st, what rod, reel and line do you plan to use? This effects how to rig soft plastic worms.
