No sales on Shimano?

Featured Replies

How come TW will not give you any price break during their sales for anything shimano? Does shimano control pricing on their products? Just curious, thanks.

Shimano is often included, just not advertised.  If you go through the checkout process you will see it.  If you're not certain, call TW to confirm first.

Academy also has fairly steep discounts on Shimano reels about once a year (20% last year) but also does not advertise. They are also typically a week after their "big fishing sale".

Shimano requires retailers to contractually adhere to MAP pricing, so some bend themselves into a pretzel to attempt to discount their products. Shimano is the Nike of fishing (and cycling) and I don't mean that as a compliment.

Shimano, Daiwa, MB... these "hot" brands are all MAP stuff, meaning every retailer will have to follow the allowed discounted prices. Going lower than that, they'll risk getting fined or blacklisted by the wholesalers. Not just fishing industry, many other retail industries do that as well. It's a common business practice, to keep up the "highly-sought-after" brand image. Even if sometimes the wholesalers/suppliers do need to move some merchandise quickly, they do it quietly, or on another market. That's why we can see highly discounted stuff in stores like Sierra Trading Post, or some JDM stuff on a US store clearance.

Secondly, with the popularity of Shimano, obviously retailers don't have to lower the prices much to move them, unless they have other purposes.

You can blame the 2007 SCOTUS for all this MAP stuff, when they overturned prior precedent and subjected resale price maintenance to the so called "rule of reason."

Make your own sales. DSG is running a x2 points (x3 for gold card members *raises hand*) on any purchases this weekend.

I bit the bullet and ordered a Shimano SLX DC XG with double the points I will be getting a few $10 gift cards. Makes paying full price sting less.

I just bought a Shimano SLX a couple weeks ago for $15 off at Omnia.

Keep in mind that the new Shimano reels, as with many other brands , do not have anti reverse switches any more.  If you want a switch, look elsewhere.

shimano is always included in the sales. It's been this way for years. You just have to either call them or trust the 8273458273452345 posts about checking out when the price will reflect the sale price.
