Need some advice regarding a possible defective reel

Featured Replies

The bait monkey got me (see previous post) and decided to pull the trigger on a Shimano Vanford 1000. Now…… the problem is that it feels a little rough when reeling in. I can definitely tell there’s something wrong with it.

would it be better to send it for warranty or send it to a guy I know that service reels (he’s charging me $50 plus any bad parts)

Thanks guys!

Warranty is the direction i would go. It could just need a cleaning but if it needs parts, sending it to Shimano is the way to go.

I’d attempt a swap at the retailer, baring that warranty through Shimano.

Can't get why this is even in question . Why pay money to fix something defective that's covered by warranty ?

Unfortunately it was from a local tackle shop. They wouldn’t let me exchange it. A little disappointing but I understand. Wish I had bought it at BPS instead, I would’ve been able to return it hassle free.

Decided to go through warranty route and shipped it today.

How long ago was the purchase?

If it was recent I don't think I would be going back to that local shop!! If it had been a while, then I understand.

It was literally just a week ago. Used it twice and they told me if I only had used it once it would’ve been fine to exchange. Very disappointing. This is a very popular local mom and pop shop in our area too.

i probably won’t buy reels there anymore. I should’ve bought it at BPS

Unreal. some people should not be running a business. What they fail to see is by treating you badly they not only lose your business but other business as well.

this was a high dollar reel and they should have looked after you.

terrible treatment of the customer in this case. this wasn't a $20 reel.

That's BS. I'd go back to the store and stand my ground until they exchanged the reel. Tell them everyone on the internet says their return policy is a bunch of crap.

That is the way to go, just don’t give them any more business. Think Positive, You only out the shipping cost and some down time.

Hopefully Shimano got the thing right for you. I also had Shimano Vanford 2000s that is not super smooth at first (compare to other Daiwas). It became smoother after awhile. The problem is the reel was from Oversea and Shimano would not warranty oversea’s reel.
