The Champ is a much better rod.

My budget only allows Furys though.

If you want a Dobyns 736 Flip & Pitch rod the Champ is your only choice. 735 are available in several models including the Champ series.

Do you think the extra fast vs fast tips make that much of a difference? In addition to how different the blanks are for the fury and champion

The Champ series are the made Dobyns rods reputation, they are excellent.

When I fish heavy weeds , I throw an 1.5 oz magnum title shot with a beefy trailer, I have a an xtasy 755 and a champ 736, I prefer the champ 736 for that application. In my opinion, Dobyns is a little under rated in regards to power, so for flipping and pitching I would go with a 6 power, the only exception  I found to that is the DX795 flip, that's a 5 power dobyns I really liked for heavy jigs , but I mostly fish from rowboats and it was too long.

I have 2 Champion XP DC 736C F/H rods I use for frog fishing. The reel's are the Shimano Bantam's MGL's with 50 lb Sunline FX-2. I fish in heavy cover & getting the fish out of the cover is not a problem. These rods are outstanding for fishing in this type of cover, & they are always on my deck.

Apples and oranges.  The Champion XP 736 is power that delivers a controllable tip to cast accurately. Gary Dobyns designed this model for his style of frog fishing in the Cal Delta and Clear Lake where the cover is nasty and so are the bass.

I own both. The Champ 736 is truly an incredible rod.

Easily casts the frog out and work it, but Is a boom stick setting the hook. 736 feels lighter as well.
