With Fall coming and open water shad busting the surface - what will be your larger three - hook spook / pencil popper top water set up (i.e. Heddon One Knocker , Berkley Cane Walker) ?  *I don't have a rod selected yet but know #30 lb.  to #40 lb. Power Pro + short Big Game #15 lb. mono leader on a 7:3:1 reel will be in play ... What will be your set up - especially the rod for your larger three-hook top water walking baits ?

I've been using an older Zell Roland signature Zara Spook . It has the three rotating trebles . I throw it on a 7 foot mh , mod fast action Okuma  rod, Piscifun Phantom reel  spooled with 12 lb Big Game . Its been a hot lure lately .

I have this same plug in bass color. One of the better spooks ever made IMO.

I like using Duo Realis pencil popper in the 110 or 130 size. It's easier to walk than some of the more traditional baits. I also like the Evergreen JT walking bait in the Justine 115 size. It has killer sharp hooks & is silent, no rattle. I like to use a MHM rod with a 3/8 oz to 1 oz rating in a St Croix legend extreme. I will also utilize a IMX pro swim bait rod rated up to 3oz. I'll use 17 lb Suffix Advance or braid with a 20 lb mono leader to keep the hooks from fouling the limp braid.

I appreciate the replies to date ... While there are Fall bass to be had by target casting top water walking baits - I find in the Fall it's about covering water on large flats , points and openings to creeks. While I am trying to figure out my rod choice (something in a 6'6" ~ 7' MH / Moderate or a M/Fast).  I have stocked up on a few Heddon One Knockers , Strike King Sexy Dawgs and Yo-Zuri 3DB Pencil 125 walking baits which are all just shy of the 1 oz. weight mark .

The falcon head turner is a good choice for bigger spooks and dawgs.  I have fished it with the 1/2 oz sexy dawg, but that's not quite enough to load it up on a cast like I prefer.  The bigger dog works great.  6'10", 6 power, heavy, fast.  Its probably faster actioned than a lot of people prefer for treble hook baits, but I find it just right for walking baits.  I fish the 5 power version for the 1/2 oz dawg.  17 and 12/14 lb mono respectively.
