Has anyone tried the Daiwa 22 Zillion TW HD? the SV TW is super popular around here so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this newer reel

I've got both, they both are perfection.

 

Both cast a mile, both are equally smooth and the smoothest reels I own, and lastly both are the most user friendly reels I've ever owned by leaps and bounds.   You've got to purposefully try to backlash it.

 

Clicking drag is cool.     

 

Not crazy about the aesthetics unlike with the SV TW which is just a beautiful reel.  

 

If you like the SV TW you'll like the TW HD.      

Love it, better than the SV, which is saying something. I'm about to buy another one and put some 5:1 gears in it for a cranking reel.

Great, I got to be hones the main feature I want is the larger handle and knobs.. that for me is a really important feature as I love shimano oversize knobs.. the SV looks really nice but I'm all over function over form.

If you are function over form then pick the reel with the braking system that is best suited to your needs.  You can get whatever handle you want with whatever knobs you want from a vast array.  It's like buying a new car based on what tires and wheels it has.  

 

Between the zillion and zillion hd, the hd is the more aggressively braked reel of the two from all accounts.  It is probably better suited with heavier baits and large diameter stiff lines than the faster zillion.  As a rough ballpark I would use the zillion for 3/4 oz and below with up to a 16 lbs fluorocarbon and then the hd for the bigger stuff and heavier lines up until you run out of capacity for truly big baits.  Now you can absolutely use the hd for baits under 3/4 oz and many do but don't expect the same casting performance as the regular zillion with the fast sv boot spool.  The hd's magz boost is more aggressive in braking by all accounts.

Another item to note is the Zillion TW HD is saltwater compatible too.

This is great information.. I'm thinking about using this reel to upgrade my chatterbait rod.. I need to look into this more before my purchase. 

 

Which one do you think is better to work on my skipping skills?

I like some additional braking with chatterbaits and do run 16 lbs flouro.  I would lean zillion hd on this one.   Chatters also add up with weight with big trailer.  You could easily be throwing one ounce.  If you were throwing weightless plastics and more long casting baits I would absolutely go regular zillion.

I use my HD for weightless Flukes, Senkos and Ikas. Those are all aerodynamic baits and not particularly light but it casts them like a dream. I would assume the SV spool would be better suited for skipping but I've not tried it with either reel. 

IMO the zillion HD is a perfect frog reel and zillion is a better chatterbait reel. None of what makes the HD great seems useful. If you just want big handle and knobs hunt around for a replacement handle for the tat elite P/F model.

All I know is the SV TW is the perfect reel for me in regard to Chatterbaits, that's what it was bought specifically for, and that is what it's been used for 90% of the time.   

 

 

Initially I put my HD on my chatterbait rod but it didn’t feel right to me.  After talking to @AlabamaSpothunter and his experience with the SV/Chatterbaits , I ordered another SV to handle that role.  My HD got moved to my heavy rod that will used for jigs/t-rigs and small swimbaits.

Thank you everyone for their reply, at the end I went for the SV. I'm really covered on my heavier duty reels so I may have to move some reels around to put in in my main line up.
