Mono with the least amount of stretch

Featured Replies

Over the last couple weeks i have read posts about mono with the least amount of stretch and most seem to side with Berkley Trilene XT or Sufix Advance. Any others i Should look at?  I did notice XT has a big diameter. How does Sufix Advance Compare

I want mono for walking the dog/buzzbaits but also want to be able to drag jigs with it. I fish from a kayak and never take more than 4 setups with me.

Advance wasn't out when Chris did this test years ago - but he make a chart of his findings.

That’s because big game is “stretchy” I guess. I thought about giving you an answer you wanted, like trilene xt. And xt is good line. But then I would have been dishonest with what I really recommend. The stretch in big game does not prevent good hooksets. It’s an inexpensive all-purpose line tough as nails

Edit: as some illustrations of the strength of the 15lb, I’ve broken hooks, broken small laydown limbs, and wrapped the line over my shoulder and put my body weight into it trying to break the line and all of the above have occurred before without breaking the line. It is stupid strong

I've been using Sufix Advance since it came out and I love it. Went through a lot of different lines until I found this!

Haven't fished it personally, but from what I've seen, Sunline Defier Armilo is about as low stretch as it gets for mono.

Almost forgot - be mindful of diameter, not lb test. I use 8# for topwater on a baitcaster and have never had a problem with it at all. I really do love this stuff!

Big Game Mono

Forget the label # test and look at the line diameter, TW is a good resource for diameters.

dragging jigs you want smaller diameter line for less coefficient of line drag going through the water, less bow.

Sunline Defier Armilo .015 Dia is 22# test, 15# test is .0126 Dia.

Sunline Defier Armilo or regular Defier (has more stretch though). Great all around line that has lasted 2 seasons of cranking so far.

Sufix advance hands down.

Suffix Advance 14 test is .015D, Big Game 15# is .015D, Sunline Armilo Nylon 22# test is .015D. Strength is yield strength Nylon or Mono line yield strength is about 1/3rd the tensile strength or 5 pounds force to stretch 15# mono.

22# test takes 7 pounds force to stretch it. Can’t have higher yield strength with more stretch.

Tom

PS, what you all feel as stretch is the bow in the line underwater being pulled straight.
