I am new to lure making and I am currently useing 5 minute epoxy as a clearcoat. What better options are there to use?

It works I've done it, HOWEVER, it does not look glassy clear, more opaque, the slower drying epoxy seem to look better. Not an expert but hope this works

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Devcon 2 Ton Epoxy is what a lot of people use.

What brand of 5 minute epoxy are you using? Most are not waterproof.

Devcon 2 Ton 30-minute epoxy would be best to start with. You can thin it and give yourself more time by mixing a little rubbing alcohol in with it. There are other clearcoats out there but start with this until you get some experience.

There are several good clearcoats.  Slow cure epoxies like Devcon Two Ton (and others), moisture cured urethanes (MCU) like KBS, and uv cured polyurethanes.  Of all of these, the MCUs are easiest to use - just dip and hang the lure to cure hard.  KBS Diamond coat MCU is the most popular brand and is sold at the KBS site and by many online auto parts sites.  5 miutenepoxy cures too fast to level out properly, will turn brown fairly quickly, and is water resistant versus waterproof.

Not good for clear coats.

It gets the job done but it is slightly hazy and takes several coats to build up. But if you are just starting out, not sure if you really want to invest. Its a very doable option. Plus its easy to apply and ready for use within a couple of days. 
kbs diamond clear or uv resin are typically what i prefer going with.

Great and this is my go to for affixing weed guards and 3d eyes.  Not so good for clear coat though
