UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

What happened to yours? Just curious. They fall out or something?

One of mine fell out. The other is worn out

And recommendations to help protect the bottom of the boat? I put in in some places that are very rocky and scratch the boat

Also are drain plugs a half inch?

I've been running my fish finder on a small 12v sealed battery and last night for kicks I tested it as a backup emergency battery for my trolling motor. It got me back to the ramp across an 80 acre lake.

Anyone have advice on where I can get a rudder for back of boat?

Build one from PVC.  Or what I have done is mount a piece of plexiglass to my trolling motor shaft.  I have a 28#  thrust on the front an a 45# thrust on the back (with the rudder).

Greetings, I'm considering buying a Pelican 10e, I see them on the Dick's Sporting Goods web site but it won't allow be to check local stock.   I can older through their website, pricing is $699 but shipping is $381!.  I'm in Maryland,   looks like this is shipped from Canada.   Anyone have suggestions on where to buy?   I contacted Pelican and they suggested Dicks and Directboats.com which is out of stock.   thanks

If I were you, I'd call my local Dick's store and see what they have in stock. I bought mine last year from my local Dick's store and paid half of what you would pay to have it shipped from Dicks.com. Seeing that the nice fishing weather in Maryland is almost over, maybe you should wait for a good sale price, or wait until next Spring.

Just bought a Pelican 10e and have been up all night reading this forum to get some ideals I have never owned a boat and was wondering if I would need to register it . I noticed that the boats I see in the pictures have a tag and numbers on the side. I asked the guy at Academy that sold me the boat , he seemed to think that since I was only using a trolling motor it was not nessary. Don't wanna go to the lake and get a ticket. I live in Dallas,Tx. I usually do not respond to forums and apologize if I am getting off subject..

Great site lots of good info here....

You should be able to find that on your states DMV website. Don't believe what people tell you the common misconception here is that if it's electric or 9.9 HP or lower, you don't need to register it. That's false. Anything with a motor in florida needs registration on public water. The specific info is irrelevant to you, but don't just listen to what people around you say. Ask the DMV.

Thanks.

Do most of you guys run trolley motor on front or back of boat?

Front for sure. You don't fish from the back of a boat when you can be in front with a clear view of approaching structure that holds fish and or obstacles. That makes as much sense as putting a tm on the back of a bass boat and fishing out of the back seat with nobody fishing in the front. Zero sense!

I have a 45 on the back and a 28 on the front.

I run mine on the rear because that's how I prefer it.

Some time ago I replaced the ring terminals at the rear of the boat with a female mar-lan plug like what is in the front of the boat.  I finally got around to mounting it properly on the inside wall of the boat.  I run the trolling motor at the rear but with the mar-lan connectors at the front and rear of the boat it makes it easy if i want to run the trolling motor at the front.  I have a pigtail I made for my battery box with a male mar-lan plug.  I'm using the Minn-Kota power center so I did away with the in-line fuse.

I'm plan on putting my Pelican away for the winter next month, It has to stay outside. I plan on elevating it upside down longways on a couple of picnic benches wrapped in a good tarp with bungees holding it all together. Sound good? Or will cold ruin it? Also with an electric motor, can that be stored in a shed with no heat? This my first boat so I have to ask dumb questions.

One more thing. I am tired of lifting this thing up in the back of my pick up. I go by myself 100% of the time. So I need to get a trailer during the off season. I want a good one that wont break the bank but not a cheapo like Harbor Freight, any suggestions?

I'm from florida, we don't have any cold weather but from common sense, I'd make sure there's no water inside both the boat and trolling motor. They boats have 2 piece hulls and sometimes water can get stuck in between the two layers. The trolling motor could have water in the prop area, or possibly the head, depending on how it's been stored. As far as a trailer goes, I've seen people use Jet ski trailers and even 4x8 utility trailers.

Hey Tommy. I understand the ramifications that many "Harbor Freight" products bring to mind...I like the good stuff myself. However, you will be overlooking a great little trailer in the 4' x 8' taller tire fold-up /tilt model HF has. It's a build it yourself package and it's perfect for a Pelican. If I did anything to change it from the stock configuration, that would be to lengthen the front hitch a foot or so. You could make it as pretty as you want...I should have painted mine or camo'ed it prior to assembly but maybe I'll do that later. But...to each his own.

The little trailers have some outstanding reviews if one takes time to read them...guys overloading the juice out of 'em and yanking 'em across country with no probs. For the $$$ (on sale and % off discounts/specials), it's hard to beat.

Can you back that  HF trailer up into the water?

Yup, I honestly can. Small corrections on the steering wheel rather than over steering will keep you from looking like a serpent's tracking down the ramp.

But...full disclosure...I have about 5 million miles on my tired backside wheeling stuff around that bends in the middle like this...

Lil practice & you'll get the hang of it. Short trailers are tougher than long...1 more reason I'd like to extend the front of my lil Raider wagon.

lol , by the looks of it I guess you're pretty good with the boat trailer then. Thanks for the tip. I should be getting a new truck and trailer sometime in January. Ill take the rig out to my favorite lakes and practice backing up with the trailer while no one is around. I think I'll be pretty good by the time March/April rolls around when I'll have an audience at the lake

Hey everybody, I have a bass raider 10e and I am wanting to go to Lake Amistad. I was just seeing if anybody has experience with the boat in such large bodies of water?
