UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

Well looks like I am going to wait it out. $150.00 off is well worth the wait. Any idea if it was early or late May?

Thanks Ken.

I had the same question. From what I have seen on some other forums and the little I can find on Google it appears that you can either tie a short rope to it and or I have also seen the pole inserted into a piece of pvc that is attached to the boat. I read an article last night that suggested the pvc mount is the way to go that just tethering to it pulls the pole out of the ground. I'm building one this week and will be taking it out on the lake for the weekend. Will have more info this weekend.

Just got a Pelican 10 even though been a member for awhile. I've got a couple of questions.

1. What gauge wire did you guys use who wired boat to put battery in back and motor in the front? I'm thinking it will need to be 8.

2. For those who installed drain for rain water can you tell how you did it. The boat I have is a older model I believe because in the floor in the back there is a little cupped area where the water puddles to if not much water.

Mine came prewired but it's either 8 or 10 ga. I had to change the plug on my new minn kota because it was the same as the boat comes with. I added a drain plug to the back, they all have the recess because they used to come with one. Don't know why they stopped.... Probably to save a dollar or two. I bought a drain that has the hose nipple on the end and just cut that off. The floor is very thin between the top and bottom layer. Maybe half to 3/4" gap. Drilled a 3/4" hole with a hole saw bit. I'd go with a larger drain if i did it again. Think mine has a 3/8" drain hole. Make sure to use marine adhesive 5200!!!!!!!! Not silicone. It's available at academy and probably wal mart. I drilled my hole, put the fitting through, put the nut on bottom side and screwed it tight then cut off the end flush with the nut, using a hack saw, remove, add some 5200 to top and bottom then stick the fitting back though and snug the nut back on. Not too tight as to push all the adhesive out between the fitting lip, nut and floor. Remember to allow room for the lip of the fitting when you drill the hole. It's very simple. I'm gonna add one to the front eventually. I sit in the front so the water runs up there.... Pretty sure it sits high enough to drain while in the water. My brother also added one to his. No problems for either of us. Academy sells the brass plugs, they're adjustable but get the one that will fit the size drain you get. One more thing, do not buy the fitting with the push on nut thing. I tried two and couldn't get the sleeve thing to go all the way on to save my life!!! Plus they're not removable, the nut ones are. In case it's ever necessary.

Make sure you use a breaker. I use the minn kota battery box with built in breaker. It's so worth the money!!!!!!! Highly recommend it.

I just purchased a Pelican Bass Raider 10E. Could I please get opinions on a trolling motor. I am torn between a Minn Kota 30 lb thrust 30 inch shaft and a 40 lb thrust 36 inch shaft. I like the idea of a shorter 30 inch shaft but I do not want to under power the boat. Also I am not sure to go with a 27 or 29 series Deep Cycle Battery. I like the idea of the 29 series but it is about 8 lbs heavier....is this negligible for the extended runtime?

Thanks,

Mark.

The trolling motor rule applies to pond boats, same as all other boats.   Basically, get the biggest trolling motor you can afford.  BPS catalog has  a Prowler model - 55 lbs thrust for $200.  Spend another hundred and get a 55 lb thrust that has variable speed control.  Get the biggest battery you can afford.  Getting two deep cycle batteries and wiring them parallel gives you more run time.   That is what I did when I had a pond boat.  I fished on smaller 100 to 200 acre conservation lakes.  The extra battery gave me confidence that I could go to the other end of the lake - fish most of the day and still have battery power to get back to the ramp.    Don't kid yourself and tell yourself that you will upgrade later.  Spend the money now, while the boat is new. . . . Don't forget the charger - get a good reliable charger and recharge the batteries ASAP after each use.

On your pond boat, the difference between different shaft lengths is negligible.  Whatever length you get, you'll get used to pretty quick.  That's my thoughts on the matter, anyway.

Get the minn kota endura maxx!!!!! The digital control lasts like 3-4 times longer than an analog tm. I have the 45lb and it's great. Also use 29 battery. I fish all day going up stream in a small river and have never been below 3/4 charge at the end of the day.

I expected to have to cut the shaft on my 36" and glad i didn't. Highly recommend buying a 8" pedestal to raise the seat too! So much more comfy not having your knees bent and legs crammed up.

I second the endura max I have a 55 on my sun dolphin and it lasts all day I'm a big boy so is take a lot to move me. I went with the 42" shaft makes it a tone easier to manuver sitting and standing.

Have people modified these Pelican (or other brand) boats to be one-man boats? I would like to know what people have done, pics would be awesome.

What is the best price for Pelican Bass Raider, and has it gone on sale?

That's my one man setup
