Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?

Featured Replies

Anyone who has the motorguide bulldog would you give me the dimensions of the mount. Considering one but concerned about taking all the room on the front mount.

It's 4" wide.

UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

Well. I have been wanting to get a portable finder for my bass hunter for a while and cabelas finally had a sale on the Lowrance Elite 3x all season.  Got it mounted and fished with it yesterday.  Nice finder and a great little package.

I just removed the swivel mount from the portable case and screwed it down to the flat spot in the front of the boat.  Holds very very well.  Mounted transducer on trolling motor. and just set battery by finder.   Wont use the portable bag set up till ice fishing.  All in all its a great little set up.  Was out 6 hours and barely put a dent in the battery

I'm pretty sure I'm preaching to the choir and i think the number of threads supports my contention but why, why, WHY doesn't the Bass Raider have more "hard points" for securing such things as cleats, fish finders and/or transducers, anchor mounts, etc?!!!!  If it did, I think Pelican could really slay the aftermarket accessories market.  I can think of at least a dozen things which could really optimize this boat.  The Bass Raider is a pretty good product overall but it could be even better!

You should send your message to Pellican. Maybe they'll take the hint. I have a 10E too and wonder what they were thinking when they built the mold for the top half of the boat.Nothing makes sense!

Only thing that really bothers me is how some of the holes on the side drain out of the boat and the other part drains into the floor!!!!!

I need to get a cover for my BR. I saw a couple on amazon and Bass Pro. They seemed like they were all the same covers. All in the $40 to $50 range. Are these things any good? Alternatives?

I"m sick of asking the wife to come out and help me flip it over everytime its about to rain,

Another thing, about Installing a drain plug in the rear. I'm not crazy about drilling into this thing but it really needs it. Anyone try this?

@pointhunter Yeah, when I got mine home and followed the drainage routes on the top half, I was like, HUH? I don't understand? half of them go back into the boat!

I used kayak drain plugs got them at Walmart for 3.50 a piece. Used 5200 to seal them they work perfect. Inside I have a small electric bilge wired up on a switch bone dry in 2 minutes

I got the one from Bass Pro Shops and I really like it.

It fits nice and snug. The only place it has a way for any kind of animal to get underneath is where the front transom mount curves in(one of our cats showed that to me). When water has gotten on it it has just puddled till I lift it up and drain it off. It doesn't leak thru at all, at least not yet anyways and it has had a lot of water on it. Even with the seats holding it up there is still enough slack in the middle for the rain to puddle in but I am looking to find maybe some fiberglass 1" strips to make a bow from seat rail to rail to hold up the middle. It is like tent material.

I picked it up in person and the funny thing is it doesn't specify the Bass Raider BUT the picture on the box is just that, the Bass Raider 10' model. I thought that was kind of funny as seeing they don't even sell that model.

Thanks for the replies, can't wait to get out this weekend.

I did a write up on the drain plugs a few pages back tommy. It's a must and there is absolutely no reason not to do it. I'll post a pic later.

Any tips on putting registration decals on boat and it not peel off.

heating the plastic before adhering the decal helps them stick better

I just use rubbing alcohol and never had a problem with them sticking.

My brother had to replace a sticker and the girl at the courthouse told him they recommend distilled vinegar over alcohol. Maybe Google it. I used it last time and no problems

Trailer I'm building for a customer. Was a jet ski trailer, now its a bass raider trailer! Carpet, lights, wash and pack the bearings and some new wheels! Should be ready to go soon!

Why do you carpet the trailer boards?

Tfultz I like that. I have a jet ski trailer and had trouble loading it back on as Im not to strong in my older years. I really like your design. Did you weld the front cross stringer?

This is the third one I've built, I've found out that bolting it on works best. Welding it makes the trailer to ridged if that makes since. Welds tend to break and some people say welding weakens the tung. Im not a professional welder so..the design seems to work really well!

What is that front from?

It made it. Its a piece of 3" channel 1/8 thick. The side pieces are 2" channel 1/8 thick. Got it at the local steel place in town. Welded it up. I still need to paint the trailer tho.

I would like to try to glue or epoxy a cleat or two on my bass raider.  Any suggestions about type or method?

I don't think an adhesive will hold due to the temperatures and the expansion and contraction. I would  use a rivnut.

I'll look into this.  Thanks!

I put

Cleats on the plywood floor and carpet I installed. With the weight of the battery on top of the floor, the anchor never came close to pulling out the floor. Working so far.

My Father's Day present from my wonderful wife, a MotorGuide Bulldog TM, 54lbs. thrust, foot controlled. No more tiller for me!!!   :eyebrows:
