if one particular bait is killing it..do you change up to keep it interesting?

For me, it depends on how the rest of the day has been going.  If I have been catching bass off and on using different baits then I will experiment around and fish with different baits.  If I haven't done squat all day then I will keep using what is getting bit.

Those rare days are what many of us live for, but they also offer an opportunity to try out a new technique/bait, or gain confidence in using one. The best way to do that is to target active fish. This is exactly how I gained confidence in a Ned rig.  I had caught a dozen or more bass in my first hour on the water crawling a tube up the steeper side of a point.  I switched to a Ned rig and although my catch rate dropped dramatically at first, once I'd been schooled on the light almost non existent bite, it increased considerably. Now when the bite is tough, I'll switch from a 3 1/2in. tube to a 1/8oz. Ned. One of these days I'll give a 1/16oz. a go, but that's a ways off.

In years past I have been guilty of 'switching it up" constantly during a good bite.

Thinking was, "if they'll eat this, maybe they'll eat this.  And if they eat that, maybe they'll eat that".

In the end, I think it caused me to miss out on fish I may have otherwise got strikes from if I had stayed with the original presentation to begin with.

My present modus operandi is to 'tweak' something Slightly.

Rate of Fall, Color, size, profile, sound or cadence.

But still keeping with the basic premise, whatever that may be.

In my mind, there's a reason the first deal is working, I can only jack it up from there.

And sometimes I do.

It really depends for me. I love to catch fish so if I've found something that's absolutely crushing it I'm most likely going to ride that wave as long as I can. On the same token though, I almost always have at least half a dozen rods on the deck with various things rigged up so "experimenting" may be a few casts here and there where I think something else might work. That may come back to me being a junk fisherman at heart.

If fun fishing and I'm really on them, I'll change up baits just to see what they will and won't hit.  I'll keep the hot bait close, but will try other things just to see if they are just in a crazy feeding mood and the bait doesn't matter or if the fish are keyed in on one particular bait/presentation.

Doing this keeps it interesting for me and hopefully helps me to figure them out on those slow days when they don't seem to want to bite anything.

What is interesting to me is catching fish so no, if i am nailing it on one bait why would I switch that up, doesn't make sense to me.
