In a split second, disaster...

I always where sunglasses that are impact resistant, and when it's too dark for sunglasses (like during a tournament blast off) I wear clear safety glasses.  Lots of bugs flying around in the early morning, and I don't want one hitting my eye while going 70+ mph.

Can't tell you how many times after a blast off I'll catch myself an hour later still wearing my clear glasses. LOL!

@PhishLI- which clear glasses do you use at night?  Anything more than just safety specs?

I've been hooked in the fingers and hands before.  I can't imagine what a hook to the eye would be like.  Glad you only got a scare out of it and didn't need an ER visit.

I got a hook in my hand just a couple weeks ago, I pushed it through because it was in a fleshy part, then drove home (5 min drive) and my neighbor cut it off for me.  Next day I bought a sharp pair of cutters and I'll never leave the lure on in transport again.  This was the second time I made this mistake this year.  Those hooks hurt and they are dangerous.  I always wear glasses throughout the whole year even when it's not sunny, I have low light glasses for that.

It's a good idea to plan for........"trouble".  A well equipped first aid kit in your boat is a good idea.  Also whatever kind of first aid kit you can fit in a Kayak, back pack, fanny pack or whatever.

I've been following this protocol for decades, and it's worked for me so far (knock on wood). Thought I'd share my method....

I have respect for people that get treble hooked and don’t change a thing. We need those kinds of stubborn when someone invades us with a superior force some day. But…

Once was enough for me. I had to do the push through and cut the barb off and all that while bleeding pretty good. Then of course I was a mile around the lake from my truck without noticing.  Still have the scar.
I always use lip grippers and pliers for any hook now. Barbless included.

I'm at that age where I have to wear glasses to see clearly and usually when I'm out on the water I have sunglasses that fit over those.

And whenever on the bank or in the boat I fish I keep fish grippers in my pocket. If I'm in my kayak they stay clipped to my seat. I ALWAYS use the grippers with treble hooks and most of the time with single hooks.

The point about eyewear is well taken.

I absolutely buried a hook in my thumb one night, Urgent Care wanted nothing to do with it so here I am in the ER and a young male nurse came towards me with a big ole needle full of anesthetic. I'll never forget what he said to me when I asked how bad that needle was going to hurt. I can still hear him saying "I don't know I've never done this before, I'm hoping it won't be incredibly painful". Ask a stupid question...

I have been very lucky to only get hooked once or twice. Never own the eye which freaks me out. I keep my hook cutters in my boat that I used for musky all the time. I wear prescription glasses or my prescription sunglasses all the time.

on a side note when I weld and have some hot spatter go past my eye inside my hood it scares the heck out of me.

I can’t fish without quality sunglasses.  Why?  The sun alone.  I can’t stand bright sunlight.

projectile protection is just the gravy.
