Just got through with the mudhole class building a MLF casting rod, 7’. I don’t have anything this light, but I was thinking BFS maybe?

What’s the lure wt range on the rod? Bfs is yet another term with subjective definitions. A ml is on the finesse end of bait casting but whether or not you’ll want a “bfs” reel to pair it with depends on your planned application. A 4 in senko will cast on that with any quality casting reel but may not fall under someone else’s idea of bfs. If you want to try spybaits with it I just built one for a customer. 

I would probably drop-shot, ned, shallow crank bait...but like @Delaware Valley Tackle said...some things are subjective.
Could also be a good live bait rod.

CCS IP 340 grams, AA 63, TNF 390.  Hopefully Mick will chime in here on uses.

 

I like it for small spinnerbaits worked slow and lipless crankbaits like small rattle traps.

Yeah, bfs is a subjective topic for sure. I’ve got a spinning setup that I use for ds, ned, etc. But, I don’t want to go get a bfs specific reel either. I was thinking an slx in a 7:x (or similar - have 2 lews $100 reels and they are bulletproof)

390 is not a particularly high TNF, and the AA makes it pretty slow in action, so I would think the power  would make it  a great light crankbait rod.  High TNF not necessary, moderate action, power appropriate for smaller cranks.  I think you'll like it for that.   Could be BFS; I'm not an expert on that.  For drop shot and neds I'd like a faster action and higher TNF.  But it will work for anything.  Especially if you use braid.

I cannot help but comment on the rating of this rod as "Fast" action yet it has an AA of only 63.  This is an example of the problem with subjective rating descriptions.  It should have been called "moderate," or "mod-fast" but that would IMHO be a stretch.  The power is a good one for it's ERN, I believe.

But the fact is, whether you want to believe it or not, you cannot tell what you are getting from the usual subjective descriptors such as "MH," , "Mod-Fast," etc.  

 

FYI, it's not "science/geek talk," it's objective rod descriptions.  Sort like length and weight.  Rather than like soft, slow, weak, and soulful.  But if you like the latter, stick with it and keep getting surprised.
