What line would you use?

Featured Replies

Got a few new rods and reels with recent sales, wondering how you would fill these out (brand and lb test included please):

  • Dobyns Fury 735c w/ Curado 200 K 8.5:1 for frogs, heavy jigs in heavy cover, etc. (thinking 50lb straight braid?)
  • Tatula Elite 7'3 MH/F w/ Curado 200 K 7.4:1 for bottom contact, maybe some spinnerbait/chatterbait use (thinking 15-20lb straight fluoro?)
  • Aird-X 7'0 MH/F w/ Tatula CT 7.1:1 for spinnerbait/chatterbait, maybe some whopper plopper/lipless/squarebill (thinking 15-20lb straight fluoro?)

Will a single 200yd spool of fluoro fill both those reels w/ no backing for those lb tests? I'm willing to get Tatsu or Sniper FC if it's worth it. Are those also soft enough to use without conditioner?

  • #50 Seaguar Smackdown

  • #15 Tatsu

I always use KVD Line & Lure Conditioner

You're better off using enough backing to get three 200 ft runs out of a pricey spool of fluoro. You'll never come close to casting that far using a 7' rod and typical bass baits.

In warmer weather, for sure. In colder weather, it helps.

Solid choices, the only thing I would probably do different is 12-15lb mono on the aird.

Myself - 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid on the Aird - that's what I use for my spinner/chatter/spook/plopper rig (which is an Aird-X MH/F)

I would go with 50# Daiwa J-Samurai Grand or 65# Powerpro Maxcuatro

16# Daiwa J-Fluoro Samurai - use some backing and through on about 80 yards. It's a real well handling line at a solid price.

I would go with 15# Berkley Big Game or 14# Sufix Siege since you plan on throwing topwaters.
