When I wrote for Canoe & Kayak magazine, I had to submit photos with my stories and my editor would never use a photo of a paddler without a PDF because he didn't want the readership to think that paddling without a PDF was okay.

@ol'crickety I like that way of thinking. I also like that tournaments make it mandatory to wear life jackets while the combustion engine is running.

I hate hearing this stuff. To many people think bad stuff can’t happen to them. I have also seen some down right ignorant stuff on the river. A lot of that comes from them not respecting or understanding the situation.

We all take risks every day. Could be cutting corners at your job with safety. It could be missing that car in your blind spot and pulling out in front of them.

On our pontoon my rule for the kids and guests is a life jacket at all times while the boat is moving and while swimming. While swimming, stay relatively close to the boat. I don't care if you're a grown man, an adult. We will simply not move until you put a lifejacket on, and if you resist you can get the hell off and never come back.

I once asked a YouTuber if he wouldn't consider wearing a PFD since he was influential in the sport.  his fans lynched me.  hahaha....  whatever.

Unfortunately, todays society still believes they are part of the " it won't happen to me" society...  "it only happens to those that aren't paying attention".   Or the best one is...."must be someone elses fault"......
