@gim -- if you trade in a rod/reel do you save money ONLY on the purchase of a new rod/reel or is the savings on any items ? (ie, turn in a rod/reel -- buy $100 worth of gear and save $20 off ?)

Correct. Only on rods or reels. If you trade in a rod, the amount you get is based on the price of the new rod. Same for the reel.
