To me ( and I am not being rude just making a statement ) Why did you stop ? Ice and lightning are the only things that stop me . I despise the word fishing season because ? I fish year round as long as I can get in the water and I am not gonna get my hair curled.

Ice for much of the winter, but I also stop because I'm an old woman fishing from a canoe and when the water chills, it kills.

  • Best time to go fishing is anytime you can go fishing.   Regardless of water temperatures they gotta eat.

The way I used to approach spring fishing for smallies after ice out was to go when the wind/waves allowed me. If I caught nothing but enjoyed myself I was good to go again. But for me the warmer wate

I wish you could find a new friend to fish with. Having a partner is at least 100% safer than fishing alone.  I never fish by myself anymore.

I'll fish with a boy a few times this summer. I enjoy fishing with him, but I never catch as many as I do alone. I put him the bow, which gives him first cast, and I net and unhook his bass, which is time I'm not fishing. I went once last year with a friend and enjoyed that, as he was in a kayak, but he's soooo busy with him family.

You do make a good point, Kent. My primary problem is my age. So many of my peers can't climb into a tippy canoe anymore.

I couldn’t into or out of a canoe or a kayak anymore!

Holding the larger bass with your thumb inside the mouth doesn’t work well. I hold big bass with my 4 fingers inside the bass side of the lower jaw and thumb outside. This grip allows the bass to hang straight down plus controls them.

Hope you catch PB this Kate!

I hope so too, Tom! If I do, I'm sure she'll take me for a ride first, as all my big ones do.

Went and looked at the ponds I fish up in the hills today, they are open but looked like the Bering Sea with the 25 mph wind. Hope to get out, or at least try, later this week. Went up this early a couple years ago and the access roads were impassable, 10 or 12” of slush.

I know that look. We're both New Englanders and for Maine, the wind dies on Wednesday. I bet it's the same for you. I'm planning to launch at 1:00 p.m., when it will be merely 5 m.p.h.

If the weather forecast holds, I'm fishing on Wednesday. It's forecast to be sunny with a high of 50 degrees and a top wind speed of 5 mph. If I can catch a bass, I'll likely fish again on Thursday or Friday, which are supposed to be similar. Then the wind kicks up for at least ten straight days. The water will be cold, but hopefully just warm enough for bass to bite.
