I've decided I might want to add a fish finder to my Ulterra in case I fish deeper. 

 

 

I'm getting a Helix 10 for the dash. Should I get another Helix 10 for the front to connect to the Ulterra?

 

 

 

And should I mount it in the dash spot for fish finders up front or on a bracket?

If you have the ability to mount it in-dash, I would go that route.  Its a little tougher to put in and take on on a seasonal basis, but I prefer the clean look and the ability to hide cords.  Also, its less likely to be stolen when flush mounted because its quite a bit harder to remove.

 

Another helix sounds like a good idea especially if you already have one and are familiar with it.  You will be able to link it to the Ulterra and your other existing helix.

Be sure you get the ones with networking capability.  

The only reason to not go humminbird for the second one is if you're putting in live imaging and want to go with LVS34 (or 60).  Otherwise, a networked set of humminbirds with an ulterra is the way to go.  Then you just need to decide helix vs solix with the main difference being touch screen (and associated price).  I'd go helix all day for the one in the front since you're not touching and adjusting it that much.

I also ordered a RM mount since it doesn't go in the dash on the be like I thought. 

Did you order an Ethernet hub?

I went with bow and console mounted Helix 9's, and they are networked and connected to the Ulterra. I really like it (although still figuring out all the features and neat things). I do have the ethernet hub. Decided to have the dealer install when I was purchasing the boat. 

 

Considered Helix 10's, or Solix, but opted for 9's to save a little $ for elsewhere in the budget.

I have been running two (Console & Bow) flush mounted helix 10's for going on 8 seasons.

IME (like most anything) there's Pro's & cons.

Pros

I like the clean look.

I like the open visibility during travel without having multiple units that I'm 'looking around';

to see what's a head. 

The unit's are out of the way, especially up forward which aids in a smooth fish landing for me. 

Con's

Removal for any reason in a PIA (could also be a Pro).

But I'm talking about if & when a unit may need repair.

Finally, some folks 'remove' the units for travel.  And I think that's a really good idea.

Depending on the terrain, flush mounted units endure quite a bit of vibrating while trailering. 

May even lead to premature failure (which is what I believe happened in two of the 4 units I've had on this rig).  Despite not driving like I'm participating in the Baja 500,

some bouncing & vibration is unavoidable, especially up here. 

Northern Michigan roads are notoriously bad, in particular many lake access roads. 

Either way, I weighed all that and still prefer it this way

Your going to need a Ethernet hub if your going to have both Helix’s and your trolling motor networked together.

I like flush mount at console but because I run 2 on the console there’s not enough room for flush mount. On the bow I run 2 and I use bracket mount for the same reason as stated above I can change the angle if necessary.  Either way you’ll appreciate having grafts on both console and bow.

Yes really you can network your two helix’s together or one helix and your T/M but you can’t add any more than two pieces of networkable equipment without the Ethernet hub.

Also you will need Ethernet adapters for each helix.

You need a Ethernet Hub and a Ethernet cable for each piece of equipment and the two adapters 

 

so you need

1 Ethernet switch hub 5 port

2 total Ethernet adapters

3 total Ethernet cable’s
