Sony neck cooler in the dog days of summer

Featured Replies

Looks like Sony just launched their 5th version of the neck worn personal ac. The Reon 5. Has anybody used these? I’m wondering if they would work under a shirt such as the aftco barracuda or simms solar flex guide

Ah the old ways are truly dead, eh? Water, shade, taking a dip, and weather forecast aren't sensible things anymore I guess. No idea about these. Just get the ick with technology anymore though honestly.

I have a set of the neck fans without AC.  I saw someone in my warehouse using them in the summer months and thought I would try them even though they look a little ridiculous.  I will use them if it gets too hot on the water.

I have no experience with these things, but evaporative cooling with neckerchiefs and sticking you cap into the cooler ice then wearing it wet have worked forever if the humidity isn't too high.

My first impression is that it's an expensive, complicated solution to a problem that has more inexpensive, simpler solutions.

Been using an artificial chamois, like the “Absorber” for as long as they have been made.  Always carried a couple of extras in my boat for summer clients on guide trips.

The inexpensive cooling towels on amazon really do make a difference vs a regular towel.

And my wife bought me a similar electronic cooler that went around my neck; I thought it was kinda goofy but.. it's really hot here in the summer so I tried it. It really works.

It's definitely worth trying!

Whatever can keep you cooler and more comfortable. Because that could mean more fishing!

Buy it and post the results. I'd be interested to hear about it.

My wife uses one. Feels like a fan lol. I use a mission hat I dip in lake or the cooler water. Works fine, no batteries 😎
