Super User casts_by_fly Posted May 13 Super User Share Posted May 13 Hi gents, has anyone ever seen the micro power pole on sale? I’d like to have one for my kayak but it’s a good chunk of money. I’ve watched for what feels like forever and I’ve never seen them discounted anywhere. It’s $600 plus another $109 for the pole. I’m sure there is a new customer 10% off somewhere maybe. Or TW does their 10-15% off gift cards at the holidays. But otherwise there is no competitive pricing on them. Anyone know of anything? thanks rick
volzfan59
I've got one on my 16' X 50" bass jon. I really like mine, smooth and quiet operation. Pole storage can be a pain. I bought four rubber mounts meant for a light pole. Attached them at 3' intervals, so far so good it's working well after 3 years. Hope that this helps. Edit; I'm sorry, I missed the part asking if anyone had ever seen them on sale. I have never seen them on sale. When I was working at BPS, I even asked a rep if they ever put them on sale or had any factory seconds or repaired units for sale. He said they didn't. Again, my apologies
KYKBassing
There's a couple places that occasionally have a site-wide 20% off sale, I was able to scoop up a whole system that way. There might be one or two places that have something for Memorial Day. It is a good chunk of money, I was a bit skeptical about putting that much money down for one. But after having one for a couple years, I wouldn't want to be without. It's invaluable for being able to stop and pick apart fishing spots.

I use it when I'm picking apart spots as you note. I can jog around a dock or laydown and pitch every piece of it. Where I've considered the pole is when I'm in a grass bed so the motor doesn't get bunged up with grass trying to move around or when I'm in <3' of water. The first is more common than the second. I can see that I would use it occasionally, but its hard to justify the price. If it was half the price I would have done it already, but $700 is a lot for something I'm going to use occasionally. At 20% off? I'd probably just do it.
KYKBassing
Tough to justify if you only plan to use it occasionally, but they do work pretty reliably like Volzfan59 said. I've got a Torqeedo to get from place to place, but like to anchor once I get to a spot and position myself with the wind. If you have Spotlock and you're only using for less than 3', you may want to buy the pole and try it manually first. I've used mine that way a couple times when I forgot the battery and it worked, I just needed to remember that it was next to me, otherwise I'd hit it while casting. That was with the 8' pole, though. A 6' pole might be handier. I double checked, the sale I had was only 10%, like you mentioned it was probably a first-time buyer code. Better than paying full price, though.

My rods are horizontal on my left from 3' behind to 3' in front of the seat area. I use the right side to land fish and for my helix. The rear mount location is perfect for it from that perspective. Standard
Micro power pole is the best thing I've bought after my pedal kayak. I got the 8' HD spike as I do a lot of river fishing. One trick - add everything you want to the cart, run through all the steps to check out but don't complete the purchase. Make sure your e-mail is in there. A lot of times after 24 hours or so you'll get an e-mail from the retailer offering a %10 off code to complete the purchase.

Super User casts_by_fly Posted May 14 Author Super User Share Posted May 14 and they never go onto the used market either. Every single one I've seen listed for sale used has been a scam to the point that I would say NEVER buy a used one. rick
tander
Got 20% off at Tackle Warehouse on Black Friday. If you can't wait that long, they will have a 15% off on some major holidays. They might have a discount this Memorial Day.

I have a wishlist built and if they go on sale I’ll grab it. Otherwise I’ll wait for BF.
JN94
Not sure if they ever are discounted but I'm going to second what others are saying - I've had one for a few years now and it's great. Would be really tough to fish without one on my kayak now that I've had it
Junk Fisherman
Does the pole keep you in place without spinning? I have 1 Talon on my boat and my boat spins with a crosswind. Thanks.
Woody B
I've considered one Talon to help keep my boat still in the wind. I would use it along with my trolling motor. Have you tried a combination of Talon and trolling motor? I've got spot lock, but would think just put the Talon down, and use a steady constant speed and direction from the trolling motor to keep the boat facing the way I want it to. My bow mount (minnkota maxxum) does not have spot lock. When my talon is deployed, it does a fairly good job holding me in place, but as stated above, if there is a wind, the front of the boat will have some sway. That's when I go to work with my bow mount, using the talon as a pivot point. I do a lot of shallow water fishing around docks and weeds in the summer time and it is very useful during that period, allowing me to change angles around docks. When I was crappie fishing a couple weeks ago, I never even used my bow mount. I just talon down in 6 feet of water and it held me where I wanted, although there was pretty much no wind that particular day. I use mine every time I launch/load solo too at the ramp/dock.
