What are your favorite brand / model jigs for pitching around docks (this may include skipping as well) ? Also favorite weights,  colors and trailers as well … I imagine a good starting point would be 3/8th oz. , green pumpkin jug with a beaver or craw trailer as bluegill are the usual bass forage around docks ? I’ve not been much of a dock bass fisherman in the past (except wacky rig) but now I’m looking to up my jig dock fishing game as jigs can often get the bigger bites . 

Coda Lures Apex All-Purpose Jig. Pretty tough for me to recommend jig weights and colors just based on the fact that you want to fish docks. If you want for easier skipping though, use 3/8oz. A z hog skips well as a trailer, but I skip Z craws, Rage Craws, Rage Lobsters, and more. I don’t really care. 
 

For me, Jig fishing is second only to spinnerbait fishing. Docks are my favorite cover to fish. Skipping docks with a jig is darn fun, and many people just don’t skip a jig well on a baitcaster or don’t care for it. 

 

 

My favorite trailer for skipping docks is a swimbait!

 

Most jig weights skip fine it's more the head shape and trailer and thinner skirt + technique.

I would imagine besides skipping jigs there are a fair number of jig fishermen pitching precisely to dock poles , dock corners , etc. ?

Yes. I still struggle to skip with a baitcaster, so this is my approach if I want to use a jig. I use one by Seibert Outdoors, who is a sponsor on this site... can't remember the name though. Most folks use Arkie style heads, myself included. 

 

I don't really have a problem skipping an Oldham's Trailer Hitch Jig under docks with a Strike King Rage Bug or Gene Larew Salt Craw trailer.

 

I don't often change from the Oldham's Jig, but I have also used a Santone Lures Rattlin' Jig for skipping at times.

 

 

1/4oz-3/8oz flipping style or finesse jigs. Color depends on your own personal confidence and water clarity, but black/blue, black/red, watermelon red or candy and various green pumpkin colors would be my favorite around here. I use tiny/baby paca craws, paca chunks and baby rage craws. Upsizing the trailer can slow the rate of fall, which can help sometimes.

Yep Oldham’s skip just fine. Even a 3/4 with a flappy trailer will get under there. 

I don't have a favorite one, but I use several of my own around docks for skipping and pitching. A ballhead finesse jig or hidden eye flipping jig both get a lot of the action. 

I got one jig I flip, pitch, cast, skip, & swim.

Strike King Rage Craw or Bug.

The more time using the same jig pays off in the most important factor in jig fishing….strike detection. Knowing the jigs idiosyncrasies rate of fall and feel gives intuition when a bass has the jig in their mouth. Find a jig you like with premium sharp hook and use it all the be time.

Jewel AJ ball head in 5/16 with a speed craw trailer. It's the same as the old Eakins jig,

PBJ or a green pumpkin is all you will ever need.
