What lb test do you use?

Featured Replies

Was courious what pound test most of you use.

Maybe give 2 answers 1 for thick cover and one for open water.

maybe tell what type IE braid flouro lb test and if you know it give the equiv mono size

Ie    Thick cover - I fish 30lb braid = approx 60lb mono dia

I use several types and haven't settled one yet. I like 8lb mono for normal stuff. I like braid on spinning rods too because I don't get near as much line memory loop mess. I'll use 10lb braid.

My spinning rods have either 8 or 10lb Trilene XL

Baitcasting plastics, 10 or 12lb Transition

Baitcasting cranks and spinners, 10 or 12lb Vanish

I tried some Silver Thread for cranks last summer, and liked it.

I have spools of YoZuri Hybrid Ultra Soft, Gamma and Sufix ready to experiment with this year. They are intended for the crank and spinner rods. I perfectly happy with Transition for all my plastics. And, I still like XL for spinning gear.

All my panfish rods have XL, 2,4 and 6lb.

Muskie rods are 50lb braid, one PowerPro, one Spiderwire.

Cheers,

GK

Spinning tackle:  #4 & #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft

Baitcasting gear: #12 Ultra Soft

I use several different sizes and styles, dependind on what the rod is going to be used for. For open water, I like 8-12 lb test P-Line flouroclear. Cranbaits usually go on 10-lb or 8-lb. Topwaters get 14 or17 lb Sensation. For flipping, I use either 20-25 lb mono or 30+ braid. I have a hard time detecting jig bites on the fall when I use braid, so I only use it in grass.

I use 8-10 lb test on my spinning rigs.On my baitcasters,I'll fish 10,12,15 test.I'll use 20 ldb Hybrid for flippin'/pitchin'.

6lb Trilene XL for spinning and 12lb and 15lb for baitcasting

30lb braid for flipping

20lb braid for jig/worm, frogs

15lb braid for spinner/buzzbaits

10lb braid on spinning gear

10lb mono for cranks/jerks/topwaters

8lb mono for weightless soft plastics/finesse

4lb mono for panfish

I like the smaller diam. braid, some don't. Also all my mono is low-vis green.

10-17lb test sensation

Senko/Finesse 6lb pline (FLUOROCARBON)

Cranks 15lb Pline (FLUOROCARBON)

Jigs/Frogs 30lb power pro

Spinnerbaits/buzzbaits 10lb Gamma
