New Soft Plastic Rod

Featured Replies

I like to fish mostly soft plastics, Senkos, Ikas, Flukes etc and I'm looking to get a new rod in a couple weeks at the Sportmens Show in Central MA.

I have a Shimano Stradic I want to put with it.  I'm using the BPS 6.6' med action Extreme with it right now.  Is there anything out there for around a couple hundred that would make a huge difference in sensitivity, performance etc?

Thanks in Advance!

St Croix or GLoomis ?

All Star makes nice rods and the Fenwick Roadwarrior mentioned is a nice rod. But my favorite rods in that price range are St Croix Avids.

That's sort of vague... Loomis offers a wide range of rods for "a couple hundred"  In fact, for that range + 20 or 30 dollars, you could swing a GLX from fatfishfarmer...  I don't think you could ask for much more rod than that!!  But if you have to buy at the show, I can't help since I don't know what will be for sale there.

Here ya go.  I have four of them.  They are light in weight(will float a reel on the water), sensitive, forgiving, and yet powerful.

My favorites at that price would have to be the St. Croix Avid ($160) or for about $70 more a G. Loomis IMX(SJR782S) both are a 6'6'' M.  The Loomis is worth the extra bucks but both are fine rods.

One other choice would be a G. Loomis BSR803 Mossyback.  I have not fished this one but I have looked at it and it is a fine rod for around $215.
