Hooked into a nice smallmouth while gar fishing with a fluke! Low tech video but captured a nice jump on film.

I cracked up when you said that fish is going to Narnia. I might have to borrow that one sometime. 😂

Nice fish brother!

I subscribed too.

That was quite a battle and I liked the back reeling.

Nice job taking your time… curious what line you were using?  Didn’t sound like braid, but it held up.

And I have to ask - who fishes on purpose for gar? lol …

@FryDog62, eagle claw 6 lb mono. I did have a gar bite thru it but they can bite thru anything. I absolutely love gar fishing, they fight like crazy. I’ve had them cartwheel, tailwalk, and nearly dump a spool off 65 braid of a 6000c ambassadeur reel

the hard pard is holding them without being murdered

You got pretty excited on that one. I even detected some back reeling.

I was ready to backreel for those gar, luckily it helped with the bass too

When I fished with a Mitchell 308 with 4lb Stren I back reeled for bonita.  2024 reels have a much smoother drag.  Nice smallmouth.
