Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted September 16, 2024 Global Moderator Posted September 16, 2024 Hooked into a nice smallmouth while gar fishing with a fluke! Low tech video but captured a nice jump on film. 8 Quote

Fishlegs Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I cracked up when you said that fish is going to Narnia. I might have to borrow that one sometime. 😂 Nice fish brother! 1 1 Quote
Super User Solution Swamp Girl Posted September 16, 2024 Super User Solution Posted September 16, 2024 I subscribed too. That was quite a battle and I liked the back reeling. 1 Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted September 16, 2024 Super User Posted September 16, 2024 Nice job taking your time… curious what line you were using? Didn’t sound like braid, but it held up. And I have to ask - who fishes on purpose for gar? lol … Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted September 16, 2024 Author Global Moderator Posted September 16, 2024 @FryDog62, eagle claw 6 lb mono. I did have a gar bite thru it but they can bite thru anything. I absolutely love gar fishing, they fight like crazy. I’ve had them cartwheel, tailwalk, and nearly dump a spool off 65 braid of a 6000c ambassadeur reel the hard pard is holding them without being murdered 1 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted September 16, 2024 Super User Posted September 16, 2024 You got pretty excited on that one. I even detected some back reeling. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted September 16, 2024 Author Global Moderator Posted September 16, 2024 I was ready to backreel for those gar, luckily it helped with the bass too Quote
Alex from GA Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 When I fished with a Mitchell 308 with 4lb Stren I back reeled for bonita. 2024 reels have a much smoother drag. Nice smallmouth. 1 Quote
