Flat-sided crankbaits are the deal when the water is still cold and bass lethargic, waking up and moving toward shallow water. These baits flat-out catch fish in February!

    Crankbaits, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits are all the same right now just dragging across the ice.

    The crankbait pause mentioned is an A+ nugget. Caught a nice fish this weekend by accident - was fishing a flatside, and paused halfway through the retrieve to fiddle with electronics. Five seconds later the fish smoked the lure. Turned out to be a great clue to slow down even more on the retrieve, incorporate pauses etc. And to try a jerkbait, which worked well with longer pauses.

    We're locked out here in SE New England.  No February crankbaits for me this year, at least not with the forecast ahead of us.
