Neko rig weekend

Featured Replies

Last Saturday I was impatient and wanted my wacky to sink quicker. I pushed a tiny weight into the nose and first cast it was fish on!   I haven’t Neko’d in a couple years.  Not entirely sure why I  stopped.   It’s fun.   Spinning rod fun.

🤩 m trying the gamakatsu cover neko hook this weekend.  It was fairly straightforward

A Neko is a mainstay in my arsenal once we get into post spawn.  Largemouth set up on established weed lines and I need to make the stick bait sink faster in deeper water.  It's not effective until about the middle of June.

I've really enjoyed Neko rigging a lot more since I got some of the Geecrack Neko Hacks to rig mine up with. I really hate losing the plastics almost every fish it seems like, especially with the weight in the end of it. I can get so many fish out of a single plastic now, it makes it much more enjoyable to me.

You think those Neko Hacks work better than a VMC crossover ring, or even a simple O-Ring?

I've got a pack of them that I used to with some JDM pancake style baits, but I didn't think they would be that effective with traditional stick bait styled worms.

I'm also wondering the same.

I generally use two o-rings over lapped.  I bought some VMC crossover rings to try this season too.

Absolutely better than the regular rings. I don’t average much better life with than rings than I do just running the hook through the bait. I haven’t tried the VMCs, but I’m sold on the Neko Hacks. I don’t know if it would work on really soft baits like a GY Senko, but it’s great with the baits I’ve been using.

Thanks!   I've tried just about everything at this point, double o rings, Crossovers, other types of sleeves, the best I can do is average about 4-5 fish per senko.    I just can't envision the Neko Hack being better on the senkos, but I listened to a YT video from Alex Rudd earlier where he said that's what he uses.   Guess I need to try it out.

Since mid March, I've burned through 17 packs on Yamasenkos, and 6 packs of the VMC crossovers whacky rigging.     About $200, but that's yielded over 500 Bass on those baits so I really can't complain.   My concern is all the plastic that ends up in the lake.

I bought a lifetime supply of medical silicone hose for a 5” Senko. For my Wacky.  It was maybe $12 at the time. No turning back now. :)

The problem may lie with the plastics themselves.

When I wacky rig, I prefer to use a yamamoto because I like the natural fall rate. But when I neko rig, I use other brands. There’s a weight in it anyways that makes it fall faster, so who cares what brand plastic is being used. I’ve been using stick o, yum dingers, and crème from Walmart. They last a lot longer than yamamotos. I can go 4-5 hours on one or two plastic stick baits and catch 20+ fish on each one.

I'm a big believer in the VMC crossover rings and why I have a surplus.

.006 for Senkos but don't fall victim to the tap tap tap 😂

Caught 9 today on a neko rigged roboworm fat straight tail with a 3/32 oz weight and a #1 VMC wacky hook
