Which braid to try from YGK?

Featured Replies

Want to try YKG braid since its a brand i've always ignored, but have heard a lot of good things. Right now the one that has been suggested most to me is the YGK X-braid Fulldrag. Would this be a good option, or is there something else?

@ABU is overpriced What application are you wanting to use it for? Some lines from them only come in certain sizes.  Also, I would plan on using leader with most of the their thinner sized lines (PE 2.0 and below).

Looking for #20 (i saw they have something like #22, which would be fine), and i do use a fluoro leader at all time. This would be for my general purpose bank spank setup.

@ABU is overpriced  From YGK, I've done G-Soul upgrade x8 and Ultra Max2 WX8.  Both are light years ahead of US domestic options.  I use pe 1 on shallow spool zillions and both have done well so far, but I will give a slight edge in distance to g-soul upgrade.

You don't want to go by pound rating but by diameter or PE size. 22lb is around a 3 to 4lb US mono equivalent.  This would be fine for spinning but it would be a chore on a standard baitcaster.

For spinning and casting I like Upgrade. It's pretty easy to use and holds up. I haven't used Fulldrag but it is pricey. It has a coating that adds some durability and makes it easier to cast. I ended up getting some PE 0.8 in Shinji which is crazy expensive but I got it for next to nothing with a work gift card. Best line I have ever used.

If you go to casting I would start with PE 2.5 which is around 8lb mono but 3.0 is my what I like to use for everyday stuff.

This good? Interesting. I ignored most JDM fishing line because 832 is great, so i told myself its not even worth trying JDM stuff.

I've used a bunch of 10lb (especially the sufix 832) on baitcasters, and if you fill your spool very tightly from the beginning, it doesn't dig that much, and i usually don't pull snags by tightening the drag, so line digging is not much of a issue. I did check the Upgrade as well, and if i can't find the Fulldrag one for a decent price, this is most likely what i'll try as my first YGK.

To me, yes by a mile.

Here's how I break down my pe and all always used with a leader and all layered on 15-20lb ultragreen maxima for stacking keeping 80-100m on each setup;

pe 1 - roro x27 spool on a zillion and an alpha air (standard spool)

pe 1.5 - alphas 800s (standard spool)

pe 2.5 - metanium (standard spool)

I plan to use it on the SLP1010 spool inside the zillion and the og steez. These spools aren't that deep.

Judging by your other posts you are aware of how downsizing will affect your equipment. Just keep an eye on line diameter because comparing 832 to JDM braid in terms of lbs test is likely to be a significant downsize.

Got this thing. Haven't used it yet, but seems like a very smooth line.

It's great stuff, my go-to.  I use it on diameters from #0.8 to #1.5.  It handles exceptionally well.

I've only used the YGK G-Soul sinking braid after it was recommended to me several years ago.  It was much better than anything else I had tried (Power Pro, Daiwa, Suffix).  I haven't tried any of the YGK lines because I was so satisfied with the sinking braid.

Great. Been hearing so much positive comments for so long about YGK, it's finally time to test it out.

It's pretty much the golden standard JDM line, can't go wrong with it.

Is there one in particular that is THE one to go for? The YGK Full Drag is the one i've heard the most positivity towards, but it's so d**n expensive.

I think it's the way the carriers are woven IIRC.  I've run small diameter braids like Berkley X 9 and J Braid and on reels with a slower level wind, dig can be a problem.  These were in diameters similar to #0.8 YGK.  I've never had that issue on the same reels running the YGK.
