My old Man took that boat ride. Never spoke of it much. But those boys got it done against overwhelming odds. Some of Americas finest

The greatest generation.

Yep.

My father was in WW1, Korean and Vietnam and I was to young to thank him.

My Dad was a combat engineer

I remember he would never talk about anything that he’s done or seen.
After a while we just stopped asking.

My Ma said all she knew was that he built or repaired runways and bridges while the fighting was still going on.

I think she knew more but would never say.

My Grandfather John (died in 2006) was WW2 infantry and helped liberate Buchenwald concentration camp.

Rarely talked about it though.

My Grandpa was in WWII. He was in his 70’s when I was born and he passed away when I was barely in double digits. All I know is he was in New Guinea. My mom said all he would talk about was seeing kangaroos and koalas. I’d like to know more about where he was and what he did but information seems nonexistent. He’s now resting at Fort Custer National Cemetery here in Michigan. I still have one of his dog tags.
