Wrapping line around rods.

Okay, I'm just now learning about wrapping my line around my rod to stop tangles during transport. Transport for me is in a car and walking up the bank (mostly).

So I put the lure on the hook keeper, reel up the slack, and then wrap the line (from lure to tip) around the rod 2-3 times, stopping so it's past the last guide, which keeps it wrapped.

The problem I'm having is that it's hard to get it unwrapped. What is the easiest method to get back into action? Do I hunt for the line, and then grab/put a fingernail under it and reverse the wrap or what?

Unhook it from the hook keeper to get some slack and swish it over the rod a couple times. Then just throw the bait out into the water with your hand. It should all straighten.

When I put the rod away , with the bait on the keeper I hold the line above the guides and give it a few twists to the right. When I use it again , a few twists to the left.

Personally I found if I only wrap the line once around the middle guides with the hook on the keeper then all I have to do is take the hook off the keeper and give the rod a little twist and I'm ready to go. Just what works for me.

I have started using rod socks more so I don't wrap my rods as often as I used to, but when I did, I would grab the line about midway between the lure on the hook keeper and tip and wrap it until snug then hooking it over the middle line guide.

When unwrapping, if I couldn't just unhook the lure and spin it off the rod, I would follow the line up from the lure to the middle eye (following it around the rod) then unhook from the middle line guide and unwrap in a reverse direction from how I wrapped it.

It usually wasn't bad and only took a few seconds. I was mainly wrapping them to keep from tangling in the rod locker of the boat.
