Sunline Braid

Featured Replies

I’ve been wanting to stick with one brand for fishing lines. Since I already use Sunline fluro. Sunline provides one of each type of line already. I’m currently trying 12LB Xplasma(Bright Green) and the only negative thing I’ve had with it is having a weird breakoff once but it hasnt occured ever again.(probably was nicked somewhere)

Has anyone got any bad experiences with Sunline Braid? I just see bad reviews on a lot of the different braids. Mostly abrasion resistantance and color fading. But then I’ve seen fr another post about it not fading as fast as other brands(at least for Xplasma).

I use Sunline flouro exclusively also, but know a few folks who use their braid and none have ever mentioned a problem with it that can’t be explained away.

And it’s not like I missed a conversation or complaint as we frequently discuss among ourselves what we used (equipment setups and tackle) as a few are new to fishing and most have a tendency to keep changing things up.

(Which makes me crazy)

Anyway, you’ll read the good and bad about everything but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

It took me years to change from Power Pro to Seaguar’s Smackdown braid not because of any problem, but because the long term, consistently positive reviews I’ve read and heard about on here and elsewhere convinced me too.
Once I did I have no reason to change back or try something else including Sunline’s offerings.

I've used Xplasma for a couple of years and its good line. It does fade over time though. I have since moved on to Xbraid Upgrade.

I use 50 and 60 lb FX2 on casting and 16 and 20 lb SX1 on spinning. No issues. Aware of Xplasma but no reason to switch at this time.

The yellow looks radioactive out of the box but fades fast. The blue-green color holds up OK. The plain green fades but I think that's desirable.

I'm using the Almight line currently on a spinning rod.  that stuff has been fantastic.  I use the pink color and it is so easy to keep an eye on.

I used 18lb and 8lb Xplasma. The lines were super slick before the coating faded, but I did have some break-off, mostly due to abrasions. To compensate that, I'll need to either use a higher test # or check the line more often.

As for the coating/color fading, I don't feel like it's faster than others.

Was going to go with the glow colored sinking Xbraid, but figured it would wind up stained and dirty looking like crystal colored lines, so went with Almight instead.  I dont care what you think of me, pink looks great on a reel, especially dark reels like Tatula, Back Bay, Exsence, VR 50 and so on.

My local tackle shop owner says the orange Siglon is the best outstanding as a budget line and he offers it by the yard for a good price.  My buddy got a bunch of reels filled there.  He likes the color and the way its casts.  The line so thin a small abrasion can cause the line to significantly weaken and him being used to 832 and 4xPP, he had to get used to avoiding certain hard cover, like bridges and rocks when possible.

How long have you had it? Wanted some, but read the pink fades to almost white pretty quickly?

couple of years.  still very pink.

Good. That’s what I wanted to know. What size PE are you using? I’ve got some .5 on my BFS setup.

it has faded on the surface wraps.  But when I cast out it’s very pink.

Fx2 for baitcaster N Sx1 for spinning ... No issues ever with with either...

Been running 60# Sunline FX2 on my frog rod for a couple months.

It is extremely coarse for a 8-carrier braid, but not noisy at all coming through the guides. It cuts pads just as good as Powerpro without the constant humming of 4-carrier braid.

This stuff is tug-rope tough.

That line has been on my interest list. From my understanding of reviews of majority of the Sunline braid is that people go off of LB rather than diameter since the Japanese braid is thinner compared to USDM braid.

I’m just getting back into fishing after two years of not really enjoying it. I was always using Sunline flurocarbon(Sniper FC or that blue Super FC). I’ve been hearing about Sniper FC specifically breaking weirdly. Have you had any problems with it just breaking? I saw a video from the Hook Up tackle talking about it besides from reading new reviews.

No. I really haven’t.

Maybe it’s a problem that just recently started as the last spool I bought was in November or December.

Plus, Maybe it’s happening on the lower end as I don’t use anything lower than 12#

Its been happening with 14-20lb Sniper

It’s happening to me on a 660yard spool of 16# FC Sniper. I am pretty sure Sunline switched resin vendors in 2024. The line feels different.

Could be the way it was stored before you bought it.

It’s possible. It’s definitely one of those deals where it makes me question my sanity.

Because I’ve been fishing FC Sniper for a while, and I know what the line feels like. And it feels different. The 20# does too.

The 16# I have to retie so much, because it’s abrading so quickly.
