Rage bug alternative

Featured Replies

So I’ve really fallen in love with the rage bug as a jig trailer. Works hopping, dragging and swimming. But they aren’t super durable. And at $7.99 a pack now man. Just curious if anyone has an alternative recommendation?

I have tried some but nothing for me works as well as the original.

Oh that’s fully what I expected to hear. And I know I’ll end up buying more of course lol. But thought might make a good post and see what else is out there

Nothing comes close for me.  Wish we could buy bulk packs.  Sieberts generally has them for best prices, though colors sometimes limited.  I have gone through ten packs this year.

That’s most likely where I will get them

for sure. Mike seems to have the best prices

Rage Menace is another to consider.
It’s more compact without the appendages but has great tail action.

I love the menace rigged vertical or horizontal. It gets bit.

If you want to save money check out big bite baits. They have a large selection for half the price of Rage. The kamikaze craw has caught many fish for me as a jig trailer.  Overall I think they’re probably the best “budget” plastics company.

Thanks! I always forget about big bite baits

One of the cheapest trailers I have been using is a Yamamoto Double Tail Grub. They come 20 to a pack for about $7-$8 a pack.

Downcycle your bugs if you aren’t already.  Texas rig them until the head is torn up.  Cut off the first 3-4 rings and rerig it as a Texas rig and you’ve got a new life on it, only 3/8” shorter (they still work).  When that is torn up, throw it on the back of a jig and call it a day.  Glue them to a jig and they will last a while. You only have to worry about the clays being pulled off.

IMO…there are alternatives, but there is no replacement. My solution is to watch for sales, and buy way more than I’ll ever need.

DSG runs SK lures on a buy 3 get 3 sale sometimes. The bait monkey usually stops to visit me during those sales. 😂

Strike King is ridiculously priced, thats why i only buy them from DSG. Get them between 50-80% off through their price matching policy that stacks ontop of their buy 3 get 3 free deals.

That’s exactly how I use them. Never glued them on though. I’ll give that a try thanks!

I have a much cheaper alternative, but it's not a bug. I started using 5" Yum Dingers a couple years ago for my pitching/flipping/skipping bait. It slays all sizes of bass and works just as well as a  T-rigged bug/craw. You drop it in a bass's face and it will bite it just the same. You can get 100 Yum Dingers for $27-ish on Amazon. If you don't want to commit to 100 of the same color they have economy packs of 30. I have bugs and craws in reserve, but haven't even used one in 2025. I'm sure I will at some point just to change it up some.

Things like this I just put a couple or three in the Amazon cart and the wife inevitably orders something and they come along.

Now that’s a good idea actually lol

Yeah but the alternative, the Dolive Beaver, is more expensive. 😂

Xzone Adrenaline Craw is an option. Very flappy.
