Pet Peeves

I do think that a fair number of anglers could do better when handling their catch; you see a lot of pros fling them back in the water when they aren't a keeper which sets a poor example.

I disagree on the net part though.  I use a landing net most times when there is a sizable version on the line.  It's for the safety of the fish, the safety of my hands, and also, well, I don't want to lose it!  I also use a muskie net, which is very large and allows the fish to stay in the water while I remove the hooks.

I've already stated my opinion on immediate catch and release formats versus live weigh ins.  There's no reason to keep beating a dead horse on that one.

Anglers could also certainly be quicker about their release if that is their intention.  Too many fish are kept out of the water for too long because people are hell bent about weighing them and they aren't prepared to do it.  30 seconds or less for this guy.

Well, that is a touchy one for me. I have a handicap permit. I don't use it all the time, but on my bad days, I really need to use a handicap spot. To look at me or to watch me walk a short distance i

Driving ... on the interstate highway I-10 ... folks get upset about the slow driver in the far-left lane ... agreed ... on the other hand, as one who attempts to obey the posted speed laws, it's a peeve to have Speedy Gonzalez in the far-right lane blinking his lights wanting me to speed it up.

If you're maintaining the speed limit in the right lane, then he can just go around in the left.

Pet peeve caused by a pet peeve are the speedy gonzalez drivers that, when seeing a left lane hog, decide the best course is to move 3 lanes right and then 3 lanes back left trying to get around only to find that they are back in the same place and have just endangered a half dozen other cars.  Just have a minute of patience for the slow driver to clear the jam and proceed normally.

I have the same pet peeve with slow drivers on the Indianapolis highways. I tend to see an accident caused by it every day. The posted speed limit in my area is 65mph on 465.  There are people going 45-55 in the right hand lane. This causes traffic to back up, no one can merge into the interstate and then that's when the daily accidents occur.  Its actually rare to see someone speeding that causes an accident these days. Its sort of like the last lap of a NASCAR race. I guess the old saying is true, "Its easier to hit a slow moving target than a fast moving one."

As fishing pet peeves go.... Wake board boats, boats going flat out next the bank sometimes inside the buoys, and people that cut their line when they get snagged. It's inevitable that I get hung up in someone else's snag and its usually one of two things. Its either 832 or Big Game. I've used both enough over the years to recognize it immediately.  It caused me to brake a rod that I've had for 15+ years this weekend, Loomis 803C GLX JWR. 20250810_221052.jpg.74ea052bd31d224a269a3de1c82dcc32.jpg
