T-wing fatigue

Featured Replies

I'm braid to leader on most everything, love Daiwas, but all of my future reels will be Shimano because of the Twing. My topwater combo is a Daiwa, it casts a mile but I'm sick of keeping the leader at just such a length with mono which ALWAYS interferes with the Twing, even down to 8lb. I tie a blood knot and no I'm not learning another knot. I really don't get how this isn't a complaint with more customers, thanks to original poster for bringing it up.

BTW for the above reasons I have a virtually unused zillion HD I'd like to get rid of if anyone is interested.

  • If you don't like the T-wing, why in the world would you buy a reel with the feature?? It's literally the only reel company out there with that feature, buy another reel?

I’ll take the way Daiwa has built their reels over the last 5+ years. No change needed.    I don’t want or need the T wing gone. What would you replace it with? Would the replacement make a dif

  • I honestly don't care either way. Both Shimano and Daiwa reels work just fine for me.

I have no dog in this fight, but I will say I also do not like how the wider front end of the T-wing reels feels in my hand. Love Daiwa and have several spinning reels from them, but the baitcasters just don't cater to me. Plenty of other reels on the market, I don't see any reason to get worked up over one brand maybe not fitting my hands/needs.

Because its not a deal breaker, but a preference. And i prefer Daiwa reels over shimano. Not to mention that shimano has something something i can't stand.

Let me guess.   You like your gears buzzy?  And unfortunate for you, shimanos micro module gears are rock solid and don’t buzz.

Quite simply, the 90% reduction is the line contacting the line guide itself.

Doesn't really take an engineering degree to envision this.

How do you know it's not 80.  Or 60.  Or 20? I know it looks like it should reduce friction; I can "envision" a reduction, but the question is how much.  Based on data.

no, based on line diameter - you're welcome to run all the tests and fall out of all the trees you choose to climb.  The rest of us will step back and enjoy the forest.

You can measure the 5% cast distance compared to Ryoga on casting range, but here's where it matters.

For those who want 34-mm Daiwa floating spool w/o T-wing, there are usually lightly-used '18 Ryoga 1016 on Yahoo, this one with KTF Kahen spool.

Daiwa's due for an update of this well-packaged beast.

OK, I'll bite. What is it about Shimanos you don't like?
