Replacing Fluorocarbon Line

The only time I change lines regardless of what it is, is when it gets low on the spool for whatever reason.

As long as there’s no nicks or kinks I’m good.

The problem is even a slight backlash can mess it up.

If you don’t pay good attention you can lose a good fish or a lure.

When I detect damaged spots on the line. Usually only a few feet at a time. Deep backlash the FC gets respooled.

For the most part, I change it once a year. I've had Tatsu last 3 to 4 years though. On the other hand, I've had some Sniper only last half a season but that setup gets abused with jig fishing.

Usually after a bad snag or backlash; you can tell when it needs to go.

Otherwise Sniper lasts a long time.

Very true, I leant it in the hard way.

Flouro doesn't get old like mono, so when it gets short or ragged out from cover. And one other scenario that you can kinda see - when the line has been under a bunch of stress (like fighting a monster on really light line, or pulling out snags) - it starts to lay different on a pretty long section of line. Gets limp/twisty/corkscrew looking. Sometimes you have to cut enough off that you are so deep in the spool you might as well replace it.

Kvd line conditioner is a great way to extend life of line... Money well spent...

Before I want to, but later than I should.  In other words, before I break off my second big bass, but not until I already lost my first big bass.  Floro lasts forever unless you kink it, backlash it, or over stress it ( a normal fishing day for me).  If I fish often, I change it often, if I fish occasionally I change it occasionally.  I change mono after a few months regardless if I fish it or not, and I only change braid when I need more on the spool.
