Featured Replies

There is three colors for spinner baits, Chartruese, White and Chartruese and white.

My weapons of choice:

"Been throwing Chartreuse forever."

Same here. At least since the '90s.

Pic of a 10.2 I caught on a chartreuse spinnerbait with a silverflake chartreuse grub trailer.

I've been using solid chartreuse spinnerbaits since the early 70's in heavily stained to muddy water. And there are times when tandem chartreuse willow leaf blades will outproduce anything else.

I don’t fish spinnerbaits much, but if I do, it’s mostly a chartreuse and white. Same with chatterbaits.

interesting factoid: chartreuse is named after the liqueur Chartreuse, made by the Carthusian monks since 1605 from a secret recipe of 130 herbs and plants and comes in two main varieties: Green Chartreuse, a more potent and herbaceous liqueur, and Yellow Chartreuse, which is sweeter and mellower. The green Chartreuse is 110 proof.

Sounds like Mountain Dew

I use to do well with school bus yellow but never see that color on any SB's these days.

I don’t think any color on spinnerbaits is essential, but I do think chartreuse comes very close.  I’ve tied skirts and experimented with color combinations for quite awhile.  Over several seasons on the rivers I fish…for dirty water skirts I’ve settled on 44 gp strands with 5 white and 22 chartreuse.  For clear it’s a toss-up between 22gp, 5 white, 33 chartreuse, and 22 white and 33 chartreuse.   I hold 5 whites long to create a teaser which I’ll trim if I decide to add a trailer.

While I don’t throw them an awful lot, these colors seem to also work on chatterbaits, but I’m still experimenting.
